About the Department

Minimum Starting Salary: $23.5281 per hour

 

The City of Waco Seeks: 

The City of Waco is seeking a skilled and motived Traffic Signal Technician to join our team and contribute to the maintenance, installation, and repair of traffic signal systems.

Minimum Qualifications; 

Required: 

  • HS Diploma or GED equivalent
  • One year of general electrical work experience.
  • Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License within 180 days.
  • Traffic Signal (or Signs & Markings) Technician certification from a nationally recognized and accredited agency or association within 2 years. 

Position Description:  

Under basic supervision, installs and maintains traffic control signals on City streets.

Essential Functions:

  • Installs, repairs, and replaces traffic signals according to assigned work orders; tests and cleans systems and components; and replaces wiring, fuses, bulbs, and other parts.  
  • Operates a commercial vehicle to inspect and maintain traffic signal hardware and electric and electronic controllers; checks schematics and diagrams and performs preventive maintenance.
  • May be required to be on-call, respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with residents, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.
