About the Department
The Transit Technician (CUE Transit Bus Fueler and Washer) is responsible for fueling, cleaning, servicing, and preparing transit buses for daily operation. This position ensures that all buses are clean, safe, presentable, and properly fueled to support reliable transit service for the public. The employee performs routine inspections, reports defects or maintenance concerns, and maintains the bus yard, fueling areas, and washing facilities in safe and orderly condition.
Works under the general supervision of the Transit General Manager, Transit Supervisor Transit Operations Manager or designated management staff.
Position Duties
Fuel buses, using diesel and DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) systems in accordance with safety procedures.
Wash and clean the interior and exterior of transit buses daily.
Remove trash and debris from buses and transit property.
Sweep, mop, wipe down, and sanitize bus interiors, including driver areas, seats, windows, floors, and
handrails.
Check fluid levels including oil, coolant, windshield washer fluid, and DEF.
Conduct visual inspections of buses for damage, leaks, tire wear, lighting issues, and other irregularities.
Report maintenance issues, safety concerns, accidents, or vandalism to supervisory staff immediately.
Move and park buses safely within the transit yard as authorized.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the fueling station, wash bay, and maintenance areas.
Follow all OSHA, City, and transit safety regulations and procedures.
Assist maintenance staff and operations personnel as needed.
Respond to emergency cleanups or service requests when necessary.
Maintain accurate fueling, cleaning, and inspection records.
Attend required safety meetings and training sessions.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Previous experience in vehicle servicing, janitorial work, automotive support, or transit operations preferred.
Safe driving record required.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of safe fueling and cleaning procedures for transit vehicles.
Ability to identify and report vehicle defects and safety hazards.
Ability to safely operate large transit buses within a confined yard area.
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
Ability to work in varying weather conditions and around vehicle fumes, noise, and cleaning agents.
Additional Desirable Qualification:
High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Ability to obtain and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the required endorsements or obtain such credentials within a specified timeframe.
Valid driver’s license required.
Other Qualifications
Regularly scheduled 4:00pm to 12:00am Monday through Friday.
This position may require evening, overnight, weekend, holiday, and split-shift work depending on transit operational needs.
