Job Description

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Transportation Engineer – Roadway to join our Raleigh, North Carolina office. As the successful new hire, you will manage a variety of projects – roadway NCDOT & municipal design projects and develop plans for projects across the state, US and potentially internationally. It is desired that you will have familiarity with DOT roadway engineering type projects, have permitting experience.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering design tasks for roadway projects from preliminary to final design for DOT, municipal, and private sector clients
  • Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages
  • Maintain and establish working relationships with regulatory agencies, local government, NCDOT, and other state and private sector clients 
  • Provide engineering design services for design-bid-build highway and alternative delivery of projects
  • Manage client communications and project development for all stages of transportation design projects
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, scheduling, and performance
  • Assist in identifying schedule and cost variances and developing recommendations for corrective action

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
    • Specialty in DOT Roadway Design preferred
  • 8 to 12 years of experience in roadway design
  • Fundamentals of Engineering Certificate required
  • Professional Engineer licensure in North Carolina or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire preferred
  • 3+ years of production experience with OpenRoads Designer
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation) 
  • Availability and willingness to travel when necessary
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Working conditions:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
