Description

Job Purpose and Objectives:

Performs routine manual work in the operation of light and heavy equipment for loading and transporting materials.

Essential Functions:

  1. Operates equipment such as a tandem truck or loader in the transportation of materials
  2. Performs routine vehicle maintenance
  3. Operates tractors, mowers, and other related vehicles
  4. Mows grass, hauls soil, sand, rock, gravel, and asphalt
  5. Loads materials and performs work-related manual tasks as required
  6. Spreads granular surfacing on county roads and bridges
  7. Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
  8. Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary
  9. Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures
  10. Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools, and other aids as required or needed
  11. Protects and maintains any confidential information, whether oral, written, or electronic

Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • High school diploma or other equivalent
  • One year of truck driving experience preferred (Truck Driver I)
  • One year of truck driving experience required (Truck Driver II)

Certifications / Licenses:

  • Valid Class B commercial driver’s license with tanker endorsement (Truck Driver I)
  • Valid Class A commercial driver’s license with tanker endorsement (Truck Driver II)

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of equipment maintenance
  2. Knowledge of safety operations of equipment
  3. Ability to operate a truck, tandem-axel truck, loader, and other related equipment
  4. Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  5. Ability to fulfill all duties with minimal supervision and to work independently
  6. Assess situations rapidly and make logical decisions in a timely manner
  7. Analyze facts and exercise sound judgment
  8. Ability to effectively manage projects and multiple priorities simultaneously
  9. Strong written and verbal communication skills
  10. Problem solving and critical thinking skills
  11. Strong math, spelling, computer, and calculator abilities

Special Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work may require the ability to exert up to 75 pounds of force at times and/or negligible amount of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Also requires the ability to talk, see, walk and make rational decisions.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Manual labor is required. Weather conditions are a factor in this position. Emergencies such as adverse weather may require employees to work outside of their normal hours or work overtime.

-The successful applicant will also be required to participate in the FHWA (CDL) drug-testing program.

-Regular attendance is required. The winter schedule (November-March) is Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm and during the warmer months (April-October) the schedule is Monday - Thursday 7:00 am - 5:30 pm.
