Job Title: Truss Designer III (Senior Level Designer)

Reports to: Director of Design

FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Divisions: Gastonia, NC | Georgetown, SC | Pineville, NC | Mebane, NC


Summary:

The Truss Designer III ensures that truss designs are accurately input based on customer plans while optimizing the designs to save on material and labor and conforming to code and company standards.


Responsibilities

  • Reviews submitted truss drawings for accuracy, completeness and recommends pricing to achieve plant goals.
  • Provides productive feedback to extended team, teaching and coaching to build efficiency and productivity
  • Develop detailed truss designs using specialized CAD software, ensuring accuracy and compliance with engineering standards.
  • Review architectural and engineering plans to determine truss requirements and specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers and production teams to resolve design challenges and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Perform structural analysis and calculations to verify the strength and stability of truss designs.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation, including design reports, material lists, and revision records.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and internal stakeholders to clarify design requirements and provide technical support.
  • Stay current with industry trends, building codes, and technological advancements to continuously improve design quality.


Qualifications and Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a truss designer position
  • Certificate or Degree in construction, architecture, engineering or similar
  • Understanding of construction techniques, submittals, RFIs, and production files
  • Software experience with MiTek and/or AutoCAD
  • Strong ability to read and comprehend architecture and structural plans
  • Experience with multifamily housing projects a plus

Work Environment

The employee is regularly required to communicate verbally and hear clearly. Frequent physical activities include standing, walking, sitting, and using hands and arms to perform job-related tasks. The employee may occasionally be required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and moving mechanical equipment on an occasional basis. The noise level in the work environment is typically loud.
