Underwriting Manager

FMH is seeking a Crop Insurance Underwriting Manager. This individual provides leadership and strategic oversight for a Crop Insurance Underwriting team, ensuring the effective execution of underwriting operations, regulatory compliance, and customer service objectives. Responsible for developing and leading a high-performing team of Insurance Specialists while establishing processes, procedures, and controls that support company growth, profitability, and operational excellence.

REQUIREMENTS:

To be considered for this role, you will need the following:

  • Experience:  Eight or more years of experience in a crop-insurance-related or underwriting field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Education: Associates Degree in related field required (Bachelor’s Degree preferred).
  • Skills: Strong understanding of Multi-Peril Crop Insurance (MPCI) and Private Products. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures underwriting operations comply with FCIC, RMA, company, and state regulatory requirements while mitigating operational and compliance risk. 
  • Establishes performance expectations and fosters a culture of accountability, team work, continuous improvement, and customer service. 
  • Monitors regulatory and industry developments and leads implementation efforts to ensure organizational readiness and compliance. 
  • Coordinates cross-department collaboration on underwriting processes, procedures, regulatory changes, system enhancements, and strategic MPCI initiatives. 
  • Builds and maintains relationships with contacts at Risk Management Agency (RMA) and National Crop Insurance Services (NCIS), as well as with our agents. 
  • Tracks and monitors metrics to ensure that the team meets and exceeds individual and team performance goals. 
  • Collaborates with Underwriting Management Team to determine overall direction of the department. 
  • Develops and trains new and experienced Insurance Specialists on underwriting standards. 
  • Provides leadership and oversight for the evaluation and implementation of RMA, PASS, and MPCI program changes impacting underwriting and policy administration systems.
