Job Description
is an AAHA accredited practice with a strong focus on wellness and preventative care. We have a strong, compliant client base that wants a high level of care and will proceed with advanced work-ups. We utilize several different mobile specialists (cardiology, radiology, and internal medicine) to allow us to do higher level workups in house. We perform many dentistry procedures which offers excellent exposure to students along with our general practice procedures.

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships are offered to veterinary students in their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year.

Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click to view list of stipend amounts and  for details on the stipend program. The stipend amount for Kitsap Veterinary Hospital is $1,500.
