Job Description
Applies medical nursing knowledge attained through hands-on experience and/or formal education to assist Veterinarians in a clinical general practice setting.
Under general supervision, providing support for a variety of animal health care needs. Prepares treatment and exam rooms for examination of animals. Practices restraint of animals during examination, treatment, or inoculation. Administers injections, performs venipunctures, applies wound dressings, and prepares patient medications or fills prescriptions as directed by the Veterinarian. Performs routine blood draws for laboratory testing in house and prepares samples for outside laboratory submission.
With direct supervision, prepares patients and equipment for general anesthesia, IV catheter placement, monitor and record vital signs as well as adjust anesthesia as needed. Able to assist Veterinarian in surgery as needed to assist with instruments and supplies, fluid administration, use of equipment with emergent or specialized patient care including post-surgical recovery.
Experience in dentistry radiographs, dental cleanings and assessment is a plus but will be required and trained as appropriate.
Classification may be used within state guidelines that do not require credentialing to perform the aforementioned duties and pertains to those employees whose experience and/or on-the-job training has developed the necessary skillset and capabilities.
