Position Overview
The Senior Vice President – Underwriting will serve as the strategic leader of the underwriting function, succeeding the Chief Underwriting Officer. This role requires a seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience in general insurance underwriting across all major lines of business. The SVP will be responsible for shaping underwriting strategy, ensuring profitability, managing risk, and driving innovation in underwriting practices.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership: Define and execute underwriting strategies aligned with organizational goals and regulatory frameworks.
Portfolio Management: Oversee underwriting across all lines of general insurance (property, casualty, motor, health, liability, marine, etc.) ensuring balanced risk selection and sustainable growth.
Risk Assessment: Establish robust risk evaluation frameworks and ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines.
Profitability Oversight: Monitor underwriting performance, loss ratios, and profitability metrics; implement corrective actions where necessary.
Innovation & Transformation: Drive adoption of advanced analytics, digital tools, and AI-driven underwriting solutions.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with local and international insurance regulations, standards, and governance practices.
Team Development: Mentor and lead a high-performing underwriting team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with reinsurers, brokers, regulators, and internal stakeholders to strengthen underwriting practices and market positioning.

Minimum 25 years of experience in general insurance underwriting with exposure to all major lines of business.
Proven track record of executive leadership in underwriting, risk management, and portfolio profitability.
Strong knowledge of global insurance markets, regulatory frameworks, and emerging industry trends.
