Job Description

The Welder is responsible for cutting and joining metals and other.  Operate appropriate equipment to put together mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision.  Competent in using potentially dangerous equipment following all safety precautions.  The ideal candidate will also have a steady hand and great attention to detail.  Knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties is essential.

Essential Functions:

  1. Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
  2. Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
  3. Set up components for welding according to specification (e.g. cut material to match measurements, size material to proper diameter, etc.)
  4. Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
  5. Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces
  6. Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)
  7. Repair assemblies and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
  8. Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
  9. Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
  10. When needed, act as a productive team member in other areas of the manufacturing process

 Requirements (Consider the required knowledge, skills, abilities, behaviors, and/or equipment)

  1. High School Diploma or GED
  2. Proven experience as a welder
  3. Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MIG, etc.)
  4. Experience in using electrical or manual tools (swagers, squares, calipers, etc.)
  5. Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
  6. Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves, etc.)
  7. Ability to accurately enter production data into Epicor
  8. Willingness and ability to learn and implement TFPS principles
  9. Willingness and ability to perform in other areas of production as needed
  10. Deftness and attention to detail
  11. Proficient in English
  12. Successful completion of a relevant welding test is required
  13. Professional Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) will be a plus
  14. Adherence to health and safety policies and regulations (e.g. constant proper use of protective equipment)
  15. Understanding of production procedures
  16. Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items (up to 40 pounds alone and occasionally up to 75 pounds using team lifting) and work overtime
  17. Ability to effectively communicate written and oral communications skills
  18. Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  19. Analytical and problem-solving skills
  20. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts desired
