NOW HIRING: We are looking for a Welder III to join our team! The Welder III is an expert welder that performs welding tasks autonomously, including the selection and use of appropriate techniques and equipment, and applies these technical skills with minimal supervision.
Successful completion of internal welding test is mandatory.

Job Title: Welder III
Location: Sauk Rapids, MN
Salary Range: $28.05-$33.00/hour (Non-Exempt)
(In compliance with Minnesota Pay Transparency Law, this range reflects the anticipated compensation for this role. Actual pay may vary based on experience, education, and other factors.)
Shift Schedule: 1st shift: Monday – Thursday 5am - 3pm OR 2nd shift: Monday – Thursday 3pm – 1am
Shift Differential: 1st shift - N/A, 2nd shift - $1.50/hour
As a Welder III you are responsible for:
Safety
- Familiar with and complies with all safety requirements and protocols for working in a hazardous environment
- Acts as a resident expert within the team on safety; typically, this role would not incur any safety violations or incidents
- Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly
Quality
- Visually inspects completed welds to determine acceptance to given specifications
- Achieves a UT (ultrasonic testing) pass rate of 85% (calculated over a 6-month period from total number of structures welded)
- Achieves less than 10% visual testing failures (calculated over a 6-month period from total number of structures welded)
- No more than 0.5 inches per earned hour
- Can weld any section with little to no visual defects
Delivery
- Reads, understands and executes Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS); assists less experienced welders with process interpretation
- Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded
- Joins, fabricates and repairs metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques
- Regularly welds on material 3/16” or greater
- Fits (tacks) any size and complexity
- Interpret blueprints, specifications or diagrams to determine appropriate welding process
- Certified to weld on any area of the pole or cylinder/ring as the business requires
- Performs the welding and/or fabrication within the standard time; average productivity ≥ 75%
- Works independently through established procedures associated with the job with limited supervision
Leadership
- Assists in the development and training of welding and fabrication employees on safe practices and advanced welding procedures and practices
- Trains other less experienced welders frequently; either in formal welding school or on the job trainer
- Identifies and initiates product/process improvements
- Assists with documenting work processes
- Dutifully upholds the Core Values of the Company
- Other duties as assigned
Role Qualifications as a Welder III:
- Welding and fabrication experience
- Demonstrated progressive experience including AWS, ASME, ISO and/or API welder qualifications
- Demonstrate progressive experience working in multiple processes, positions and materials through current or previously held certifications in at least 3 of the following process: FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, SAW, PAW, SMAW
- Prefer graduation from an accredited trade school for welding
- Expert knowledge in interpreting blueprints, mechanical drawings, and weld symbols
- Expert knowledge of weld set up parameters (amps, volts, etc.)
- Expert Knowledge of welding properties of a variety of metals
- Ability to perform basic shop math functions
- Ability to set up work and determine operation sequence
- Ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues
- Ability to work in a team environment with a diverse group of people
- Ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions
- Ability to read and understand required internal manufacturing paperwork
- Able to work under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or procedures
Physical Demands (Production Roles):
This position requires the individual to wear and work in company-provided personal protective equipment (PPE). This position requires that the individual can lift a minimum of 50lbs. And, if applicable, can maneuver large, cumbersome equipment with the use of an overhead crane and/or forklift. Must be able to work in, on, or around equipment and machinery. The employee may need to perform work with the use of ladders.
