Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform MIG, stick, and other welding processes to repair and fabricate sawmill equipment and components.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, and work orders to fabricate parts to specification.
• Fabricate machine guards, conveyors, brackets, chutes, platforms, railings, and structural steel components.
• Repair cracked, worn, or damaged equipment to minimize production downtime.
• Cut, grind, fit, and assemble metal components using hand and power tools.
• Work closely with maintenance personnel to troubleshoot mechanical failures and recommend improvements.
• Assist with preventative maintenance projects and equipment installations.
• Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, torches, plasma cutters, and other shop equipment safely and efficiently.
• Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
• Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and lockout/tagout procedures.
• Participate in emergency repairs during production shutdowns as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous welding and metal fabrication experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints and fabricate from drawings or verbal instructions.
• Experience with MIG, stick, and oxy-fuel cutting equipment required; TIG welding experience is a plus.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to safely operate fabrication equipment, grinders, drills, saws, presses, forklifts, and cranes.
• Basic math and measurement skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must be dependable with a strong commitment to workplace safety.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift more with assistance or mechanical devices.
• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, crouch, and reach throughout the workday.
• Work in varying temperatures, noise levels, dust, and outdoor weather conditions common to a hardwood sawmill.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including welding helmet, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, and respiratory protection when required.
