Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

The Welder will use hand welding and flame cutting equipment to weld together metal components and part

or to cut/trim metal objects to a dimension as specified by layouts or blueprints.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Welds metal parts or components together using Seam and MIG welds
  • Guides electrodes or torch along weld line at specified speed and angle to weld, melt, cut or trim metal
  • Reviews layouts, blueprints or diagrams in preparation for welding or cutting metal components
  • Selects and inserts electrode or gas nozzle into holder and connects hoses and cables to obtain gas or specified amperage, voltage or polarity
  • Connects and adjust regulator pressures to suit application
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases size of metal parts using welding equipment
  • Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical or overhead position
  • Positions work pieces and clamps together or assembles in jigs or fixtures
  • Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag or spatter using hand scrapper, power chipper or portable grinder.
  • Watching dials and gauges to make sure a machine is working properly
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Proficient knowledge of Seam and MIG Welds
  • High School Education or GED with 4 or more years’ experience
  • Ability to read Blueprints
