Job Summary:
The Welder job at MetalPeak involves joining, fabricating, and repairing metal structures, components, and tools using high-heat welding equipment. They interpret blueprints, operate machinery, and maintain strict safety standards while inspecting, assembling, and smoothing metal parts.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Fabrication & repair experience to join metal components using gas or electric arc welding tools, cutting torches, and welding equipment.
- Blueprint, sketch, and work order reading and interpretation skills to understand technical drawings and specifications to determine welding requirements and procedures.
- Welding equipment operation and utilization of various tools and machines, such as stick welders, MIG welders, TIG welders, and torches, to fuse metal parts.
- Quality inspection expertise for accuracy, quality and assessing completed welds for flaws and ensuring projects meet quality standards and specifications.
- Performance of various welding techniques, including stick, MIG, TIG, and potentially others as per project.
- Surface preparation; cleaning, grinding, and aligning materials to ensure proper adhesion and structural integrity.
- Materials preparation including cutting, grinding, and cleaning metal surfaces to ensure proper welding.
- Routine equipment maintenance and troubleshooting of welding machinery and hand tools.
- Compliance and adherence of safety regulation usage of crucial appropriate protective gear (PPE) and maintaining a clean work environment.
Education and Experience Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED or Vocational/Technical training and 3-5 years experience preferred.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Welding Processes and proficiency in MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and Stick (SMAW) techniques is essential.
- Blueprint reading ability to interpret technical drawings, welding symbols, and specifications.
- Metal fabrication knowledge of metallurgy, cutting, grinding, and fitting metal components.
- Quality control expertise to inspect welds for defects, ensuring structural and compliance standards are met.
- Mathematical skill and understanding of fractions, decimals, and basic trigonometry for precise measurements and angles.
- Technical knowledge of metal properties and welding techniques.
- In-depth knowledge of safety protocols, including handling electrical equipment.
- Attention to detail and precision in measurements and welding accuracy crucial for producing accurate, strong, and defect-free welds.
- Problem-solving ability to quickly resolve technical issues like material inconsistencies or fit-up challenges.
Preferred:
- Laser welding a plus.
- Manager/Weld process development experience.
- Sheetmetal fabrication experience (versus heavy fabrication).
- 3-5 years experience in manufacturing, construction, or pipe welding is preferred.
- Welding certification is preferred.
