Job Description

Summary:



The Welder is responsible for performing high-quality welding operations to meet production and customer requirements in a lean manufacturing environment. This role supports plant SQDCI objectives by ensuring safe work practices, adherence to standard work, consistent quality, and efficient production flow while actively contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.



 



Key Responsibilities:



Daily Operations & Execution




  • Perform welding operations according to standardized work instructions, prints, and specifications

  • Meet daily production targets for throughput and schedule attainment




  • Set up and adjust welding equipment to ensure optimal performance




  • Escalate abnormalities in materials, equipment, or processes through defined channels



 



Safety (S)




  • Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and welding safety standards




  • Conduct pre-use equipment checks and ensure proper machine operation




  • Maintain a clean and organized work area (5S) to reduce hazards




  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents




  • Support a zero-incident safety culture



 



Quality (Q)




  • Produce welds that meet all quality standards, specifications, and customer requirements




  • Perform visual inspections and verify weld integrity




  • Identify defects and stop production when quality issues arise




  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions




  • Maintain a “right-first-time” mindset



 



Delivery (D)




  • Complete work in alignment with takt time and production schedules




  • Support flow by minimizing rework and delays




  • Communicate any risks to delivery or production targets immediately




  • Assist with maintaining consistent throughput



 



Cost (C) & Productivity




  • Minimize scrap, rework, and material waste




  • Use proper techniques to improve weld efficiency and reduce cycle time




  • Maintain equipment to prevent downtime and inefficiencies




  • Support productivity improvements through adherence to standard work



 



Inventory (I)




  • Ensure proper use and handling of materials to prevent excess waste




  • Support WIP control and minimize overproduction




  • Maintain organization of materials and finished goods



 



Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement




  • Maintain 5S standards in the work area




  • Follow and improve standardized work processes




  • Identify waste and suggest improvements to welding methods or workflow




  • Participate in Kaizen events and continuous improvement initiatives




  • Support visual management and Daily Management System activities



 



Accountability & Team Participation




  • Participate in Daily Management meetings




  • Follow Leader Standard Work expectations from the Team Leader




  • Take ownership of individual performance and quality output




  • Support team goals and collaborate with peers to solve problems

  • Other duties as assigned



 



Qualifications and Experience:




  • High school diploma or GED preferred




  • Welding certification (MIG, TIG, Stick as applicable) preferred or ability to obtain




  • 1–3+ years of welding experience in a manufacturing environment preferred 




  • Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship




  • Knowledge of welding techniques and equipment




  • Commitment to safety and quality standards




  • Ability to follow standard work consistently




  • Problem-solving mindset and willingness to improve processes




  • Team-oriented with solid communication skills



 



Work Environment & Physical Requirements:




  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to welding fumes, heat, and equipment

  • Requires standing, lifting, and repetitive motion

  • Use of PPE including welding helmet, gloves, and protective clothing required
