The Opportunity
Old Dominion Group is implementing a unified workforce platform to support HR, payroll, time tracking, and field operations across a growing, multi-state business. This role ensures the platform delivers lasting value; not just at go-live, but as a continuously improving system that evolves with the company.
As the organization scales, workforce operations are becoming more complex across field and office teams. This role is critical to ensuring the system remains intuitive, aligned to real-world workflows, and capable of supporting the business at scale.
Position Summary
We are seeking a contract Workforce Systems Platform Owner who is responsible for the day-to-day operation, configuration, and continuous improvement of the workforce platform within the Enterprise Application Portfolio (EAP). This role serves as the internal subject matter expert, translating business needs into system functionality, maintaining data integrity, and ensuring the platform is intuitive, reliable, and embedded in how work gets done.
Working closely with the Digital Enablement Manager, IT, and business stakeholders, this role operationalizes platform roadmap priorities, drives adoption, and ensures the system delivers measurable value across field and office teams. This is an on-site position at our Midlothian office.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Operations
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert for the organization’s workforce platform within the Enterprise Application Portfolio (HR, payroll, time tracking, and related workflows)
- Serve as a key member of the implementation team by acting as a Subject Matter Expert and providing input into best practices for workflows and configuration
- Maintain ongoing system configuration, data integrity, and user access standards
- Partner with IT and business leadership to operationalize platform roadmap priorities and ensure alignment with day-to-day workflows
Backlog & Continuous Improvement
- Translate business requirements into system enhancements, workflows, and automation opportunities
- Evaluate new system capabilities and determine applicability to the business
- Drive continuous improvement to reduce manual work and improve data quality
Stakeholder Engagement
- Meet regularly with stakeholders across HR, Payroll, Operations, Safety, and Finance to understand what’s working, what needs refinement, and what comes next
- Capture feedback and translate it into actionable system changes and backlog priorities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day platform support and issue resolution
Training & Adoption
- Develop and maintain role-based training materials and documentation
- Lead onboarding and ongoing training for new users and teams
- Drive adoption by ensuring the platform is intuitive, practical, and valuable in daily workflows
- Support field teams with solutions that account for varying levels of technical familiarity
Vendor Coordination
- Serve as the primary day-to-day liaison with the platform vendor for support, enhancements, and release coordination
- Stay current on product updates, roadmap changes, and best practices
- Ensure efficient management of our seat licensing
- Coordinate issue resolution, enhancements, and support requests with vendor support teams
Governance & Structure
- Execute and maintain platform standards, documentation, and processes for how the platform is used across the organization
- Ensure consistent usage across the organization while supporting necessary operational flexibility
- Support compliance with payroll, labor, and workforce-related requirements across multi-state operations
What makes this role challenging (and exciting!)
- We are a lean team. This role requires prioritization, influence, and the ability to drive change without large support teams
- The platform touches HR, Payroll, Finance, Operations, Safety, and IT - you will need to navigate very different priorities, workflows, and levels of technical comfort across all of them
- Not everyone sits at a desk. Field teams have different needs and different comfort with technology - supporting them well is part of the job
- You will balance day-to-day system support with longer-term platform strategy, often at the same time
