POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for organization’s compliance with environmental, health, homeland security laws, and 
government agency directives to ensure operational, local, state and federal objectives are determined 
and achieved while protecting the health of associates and the environment. Additionally, assist in 
evolving Artazn’s environmental processes to support changing business and external requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
80% - Accountable for managing facility efforts to comply with all local, state and federal laws and 
regulations pertaining to environment, health, safety and homeland security, including:
• Prepare and submit environmental reports and permit applications to meet regulatory 
compliance efforts,
• Develop and implement training to support an environmentally safe workplace and surrounding 
community including training of emergency coordiantors,
• Appropriately respond to onsite environmental inspections and inquiries from the local, state and federal agencies regarding (but not limited to):
o Air permit, 
o NPDES permit (stormwater and wastewater), 
o Hazardous waste laws (RCRA), 
o Solid waste, 
o Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA), 
o Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 
o Department of Transportation (DOT), 
o Department of Homeland Security (DHS), 
o Risk Management Planning (RMP), 
o Process Safety Management (PSM), and 
o Radiation,
• Review in a timely manner and inform the facility management on all proposed environmental legislation and regulations that have the potential to impact the facilities operation. Coordinate 
responses to those governmental proposals to express the facilities position on their impact.
• If a noncompliance event has occurred, immediately informing the facility management and providing them with corrective action options and recommendations.
10% - Manage the Environmental Laboratory within budgeted resources to comply with the permits that are applicable and ensure appropriate training and succession planning, and develop and deliver cost effective environmental training to the Artazn associates.
10% - Complete other functions, including:

• Perform administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department to support the organizational goals and objectives, including planning, organizing, integrating and measuring the work performed within the department.
• Establish and maintain effective work relationships within the department, the company, and the community.
• Acquire and maintain the professional competence, knowledge, skills and certifications 
necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assignments.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
Education
1. BS in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemistry or Environmental, Health & Safety from an accredited university.
2. Certifications in the following a plus:
a. RCRA Hazardous Waste Management
b. Hazmat Ground Shipper (DOT)
c. Registered Environmental Manager (REM)
d. Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
e. Radiation Safety Officer
f. Wastewater Plant Operator
g. Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

Experience
1. Five or more years of experience with environmental compliance responsibilities within a 
manufacturing environment with two or more in a leadership role,
2. Experience working in a chemical industry with highly regulated wastewater treatment systems preferred,
3. Experience in implementing homeland security directives desirable.

11. Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office Suite, Epicor, Agency online platforms, other software.

Physical Requirements
1. Able to clearly communicate in emergencies.
2. Able to access all areas of the facility for the purpose assessing environmental issues throughout the facility including climbing ladders, stepping up upon raised surfaces, and using elevated platforms.
3. Able to wear a respirator and quickly put on PPE appropriate for the facility.

Working Conditions
1. Be available as required to support and respond within a 24/7 operation.
2. Be comfortable working in a chemical and wastewater processing facility
