Position Summary:
The Optimization Engineer will support the development of new and existing optimization and forecasting algorithms and related technologies.
Essential Job Functions:
<ul>
<li>Work with Vice President, Strategic Technology and team to design, implement and improve optimization technologies around various energy-related problems.</li>
<li>Support research and development of new optimization algorithms and implementations when required to solve specific business problems</li>
<li>Develop necessary software for optimization and prediction models.</li>
<li>Design and build necessary systems for simulation and back-testing of optimization and prediction models</li>
<li>Develop reports to evaluate real-world performance of trained models</li>
<li>Other projects as assigned</li>
<li>Dependable, reliable, and predictable attendance is required </li>
</ul>
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
<ul>
<li>Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.  The Company is not able to take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time for this position or commit to doing so in the future for individuals with current authorization to work via, for example, CPT or OPT, and would need sponsorship in the future.</li>
<li>Undergraduate degree in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or related fields and graduate degree or equivalent professional experience in Operations Research, Electrical Engineering or related field with strong computer science training and experience.</li>
<li>Advanced-level experience with optimization tools such as CPlex, HiGHS and Gurobi.</li>
<li>Strong skills in applied computational mathematics, optimization, and simulation programming.</li>
<li>Experience with commercial and open-source power system modelling software such as Pandapower, PowerModels.jl, ETAP, PowerWorld, Plexos, etc. preferred but not required.</li>
<li>Strong experience with programming in Python with a focus on Data Science and Optimization.</li>
<li>Experience with cloud deployment, orchestration and operations of optimization models.</li>
<li>Strong background in Deep Learning algorithms as applied to optimization and control problems with specific experience in Reinforcement Learning and other training methods.</li>
<li>Experience with machine learning libraries and algorithms such as PyTorch.</li>
<li>Experience with machine learning data preparation concepts (cross validation, folding, boosting, feature engineering) with clear understanding of time series related concerns.</li>
<li>Able to quickly learn necessary skills and information to be effective in position where necessary.</li>
<li>Curious, inquisitive, creative, exploration-driven, and self-motivated with a passion for applied Machine Learning and optimization.</li>

<li>You will work with electrical and mechanical engineers to develop control algorithms for machine control. </li>
<li>You will lead teams of firmware engineers through all stages of a project.</li>
<li>You will work with internal bid and proposal teams to assist them in creating labor hours and material costs for customer projects.</li>
<li>You will work with test engineers to assist them with verification of the firmware in the live environment of mail processing</li>
<li>You will be part of a high-performing, multi-site, and multi-program team</li>
<li>You will be responsible for all phases of developing firmware for various applications</li>
<li>You will work in a collaborative and team-based environment </li>
</ul>
<h2>Your profile</h2>
<ul>
<li>You have experience leading a team of firmware engineers through a project</li>
<li>You have experience bidding time and materials for firmware projects</li>
<li>You have experience working with EE hardware engineers to develop and implement control applications</li>
<li>You have experience with C/C++ </li>
<li>You have experience with Altera NIOS II software build tools for Eclipse</li>
<li>You have experience with MicroChip dsPIC processors and MPLAB X IDE build tools</li>
<li>You have familiarity with source control software packages such as DevOps, GitHub, etc.</li>
<li>You are willing to travel (up to 25%) </li>
</ul>
<h2>Education and Experience Qualifications</h2>
<ul>
<li>You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering</li>
<li>You have 3-5 years of firmware development experience creating algorithms, troubleshooting issues, and finding solutions for control systems</li>
</ul>
