Growing together.Location: Remote NationwideYou will enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.Primary Responsibilities:<ul><li>Design, build, and evolve end-to-end full-stack systems spanning front-end applications, backend services, APIs, and integrations</li><li>Contribute to architectural decisions around scalability, reliability, performance, and security in distributed systems</li><li>Apply and uphold engineering standards, design patterns, and best practices through code, reviews, and technical collaboration</li><li>Work closely with Product, Data, Security, and Platform partners to translate requirements into robust technical solutions</li><li>Develop modern front-end applications using React or Angular with TypeScript, with a strong focus on usability and performance</li><li>Build and maintain backend services and APIs using RESTful patterns and modern frameworks (e.g., FastAPI, Node.js)</li><li>Implement asynchronous processing, event-driven workflows, and API versioning strategies as part of production system</li><li>Contribute to cloud-native and microservices-based architectures in real-world environments</li><li>Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, and Windsurf</li><li>Implement and integrate AI/ML capabilities into applications, including model inference APIs and data-driven workflows</li><li>Make informed tradeoffs between real-time and batch processing, latency, throughput, and scalability</li><li>Collaborate with Data Science and ML Engineering teams to operationalize AI features in production systems</li><li>Build secure applications with strong attention to authentication, authorization, and data protection</li><li>Implement identity and access patterns such as OAuth2, RBAC, and session management</li><li>Ensure systems include appropriate logging, observability, and auditability aligned with enterprise and regulatory expectations</li><li>Contribute directly to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows that support rapid, reliable delivery</li><li>Build and deploy containerized applications using tools such as Docker and modern deployment pipelines</li><li>Monitor and improve system performance, reliability, and resilience to meet defined service-level objectives (SLOs)</li><li>Act as a senior technical contributor who leads by example through high-quality design and code</li><li>Provide mentorship and guidance to other engineers through collaboration, reviews, and technical discussion</li><li>Influence technical direction and best practices without direct people management responsibility</li><li>Serve as a trusted technical partner to stakeholders across engineering, product, and platform teams</li><li>Front-End Development: Strong hands-on experience with modern front-end frameworks such as React or Angular, including TypeScript, state management, and performance optimization for complex, data-driven applications</li><li>Backend & API Development: Proficiency in building and operating backend services using Python (FastAPI), Node.js, or equivalent modern frameworks, with experience designing RESTful APIs, handling versioning, and implementing asynchronous and event-driven workflows</li><li>Cloud & Containerization: Practical experience deploying and operating applications in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP), with strong command of Docker, container-based runtimes, and cloud-native service patterns</li><li>DevOps & CI/CD: Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment workflows, with familiarity using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or equivalent platforms to support reliable, repeatable delivery</li><li>Security & Identity: Experience implementing secure application patterns, including authentication and authorization (OAuth2, RBAC, token-based access), secrets management, and secure data handling practices appropriate for regulated environments</li><li>AI / ML Integration & Tooling: Experience integrating AI and ML capabilities into production applications, including working with model inference APIs, feature pipelines, and data-driven services. Familiarity with modern AI development and productivity tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Windsurf, or similar AI-assisted coding environments is beneficial</li><li>Data & Observability: Working knowledge of logging, metrics, and tracing for distributed systems, with experience using observability tools and dashboards to monitor performance, reliability, and system behavior</li><li>Healthcare & Regulated Environments (Preferred): Exposure to healthcare technology environments, including clinical systems, healthcare data platforms, or regulated data workflows, with an understanding of security, privacy, and compliance considerations (e.g., HIPAA-aligned controls) is strongly preferred</li></ul>You’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in. 
Required Qualifications:<ul type="disc"><li class="MsoNormal">High School Diploma/GED (or higher)</li><li class="MsoNormal">7+ years of experience in full-stack software engineering, with a strong foundation in modern front-end frameworks and backend/API development, and a track record of delivering production-quality systems</li><li class="MsoNormal">7+ years of experience contributing to system design and architectural decisions for scalable, reliable, and performant distributed systems, exercising sound technical judgment without formal managerial responsibility</li><li class="MsoNormal">7+ years of experience using deep practical knowledge of cloud-native architectures and DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and operating services in production environments</li><li class="MsoNormal">7+ years of experience integrating AI and ML capabilities into real-world applications, with an understanding of model inference patterns, latency and throughput considerations, and scalability tradeoffs</li><li class="MsoNormal">7+ years of experience securing application development, including authentication and authorization patterns, identity and access management concepts, and compliance considerations relevant to enterprise or regulated environments</li><li class="MsoNormal">7+ years of experience providing technical leadership through collaboration, code quality, design reviews, and mentorship, influencing engineering outcomes without direct people management</li></ul>*All Telecommuters will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy.   Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment.
