What You Do:Manage team project and deliverables<ul><li>Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including analysis, design and architecture, implementation, testing, and deployment.</li><li>Create and Review Request For Comments (RFC) documents.</li><li>Maintain and improve the performance and maintainability of existing software.</li><li>Design and update the database, as well as develop system architecture.  </li></ul>​Manage engineering planning and practice<ul><li>Plan and refine your team’s roadmap and backlog items with the Product Manager and leadership team</li><li>Facilitate Agile ceremonies, including daily stand-up, sprint planning, retrospectives, and demos.</li><li>Manage project priorities, timelines, and deliverables through close collaboration with product teams and stakeholders.</li><li>Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features. ​</li></ul>Support and coach team <ul><li>Lead, coach, and mentor a team of software engineers in a fast-paced Agile environment.</li><li>Maintain high morale and manage the well-being of team members.</li><li>Drive onboarding and professional development of new team members.</li><li>Drive cross team collaboration, support and unblock your team effectively</li><li>Leverage your experience and knowledge to increase your team&#39;s productivity through mentorship and coaching.  </li></ul>Raise engineering excellence<ul><li>Communicate and enforce Avant software engineering standards and best practices.</li><li>Foster a culture of continuous improvement by driving postmortem, retro and experiment effectively</li><li>Efficiently use our tech stack to develop scalable and robust software solutions.</li><li>Stay updated on new technology trends and best practices in full-stack development.  </li></ul>Why you&#39;re a fit:<ul><li>BS/MS computer science or related field.</li><li>Proven experience as a software engineering manager or team lead within an Agile environment.</li><li>Excellent knowledge of Agile methodologies, techniques, and frameworks, like Scrum or Kanban.</li><li>Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team.</li><li>Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.</li><li>Strong knowledge of microservice architecture and API driven development</li><li>Eight or more years experience in back-end development using languages like Python, Ruby, Java, or .NET.</li><li>Five or more years in database management and maintenance with SQL and NoSQL databases.</li><li>Experience with version control tools (e.g., Git), automated testing, and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) systems.</li><li>Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to think outside the box for innovative solutions.</li><li>Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.</li><li>Understand the value of teamwork and know that no problem is too hard or too big with the right team.</li><li>Experience with performance management and team building.</li><li>Familiar with DORA metrics</li><li>Knowledge of front-end technologies such as JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and one or more frameworks (React, Angular, Vue).</li></ul>This role is based on our downtown Chicago Office, located in the Merchandise Mart. We highly value collaboration and our hybrid schedule (M, T, Th in-office) enables flexibility to balance work and individual priorities.Compensation Range:The base salary range for this job is $155,000 USD - $195,000 USD/ YearEmployees new to Avant typically come in below the midpoint of the pay range. The compensation range is based on the level outlined in the job posting, and compensation decisions are dependent on each applicant&#39;s experience, skills and abilities. [If an outstanding applicant&#39;s experience and skill level is above or below the qualifications outlined in the job posting, we reserve the right to make an offer at a different level than the one listed in this job posting, which may have a different compensation range.]This role is eligible for additional incentives, including an annual bonus.
