		<div><p><strong><em>JOB SUMMARY:</em> </strong></p>

<p>The Level I Coder (clinic and outpatient) performs the coding functions necessary to the operations of the Livingston HealthCare Medical Records Department. Codes clinic and outpatient claims in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations. Must have working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10-CM coding guidelines.</p>

<p><strong>Schedule:</strong></p>

<ul>
	<li><strong>1.0FTE (40 hours)</strong></li>
	<li><strong>Mon-Fri</strong></li>
	<li><strong>8a-4:30pm</strong></li>
</ul>

<p><strong>Compensation:</strong></p>

<ul>
	<li><strong>$23.82/hr +DOE</strong></li>
	<li><strong>Robust Benefits Package</strong></li>
</ul>

<p><em><strong>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES: </strong></em></p>

<ol>
	<li>Codes clinic and outpatient encounters in accordance with current CPT and ICD-10-CM guidelines.</li>
	<li>Charges capture analysis prior to releasing account, and reports charge corrections to clinic or outpatient departments for education and resolution.</li>
	<li>Conducts record analysis for coding purposes in accordance with medical staff bylaws and state and federal regulations.</li>
	<li>Reports to physicians, medical records manager, and/or coding educator on missing documentation as appropriate.</li>
	<li>Ability to maintain or exceed departmental productivity standards plus meet turnaround time guidelines to assure timely processing to the Business Office.</li>
	<li>Assist in the compliance auditing and data collection in support of the Livingston Healthcare�s Compliance Quality initiative.</li>
	<li>Completes mandatory coding training as required for position.</li>
	<li>Serves as educational resource for clinic departments physicians and assist with clinical documentation improvement efforts. </li>
</ol>

<p><em><strong>QUALIFICATIONS (Required): </strong></em></p>

<ol>
	<li>High school diploma (or equivalent) is required.</li>
	<li>Medical terminology working knowledge</li>
	<li>Previous healthcare office or medical experience.</li>
	<li>Minimum 1 year outpatient coding experience or applicable education.</li>
	<li>Excellent communication skills to include oral and written comprehension and expression.</li>
</ol>

<p><em><strong>ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:</strong></em></p>

<ol>
	<li>Maintains strict adherence to confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.</li>
	<li>Participates in continuous quality improvement.</li>
	<li>Performs other duties as required/requested.</li>

<p>Management and 24-hour responsibility for the planning, organizing, staffing, coordinating, and controlling of all functions of the Health Information Management and Transcription Departments.</p>

<p><em><strong>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES: </strong></em></p>

<ol>
	<li>Prepares and administers the department�s annual operating and capital budget within financial expectations; accounts for variance.</li>
	<li>Recruits, develops, retains, and leads an appropriate number of personnel to meet department needs and the goals and objectives of Livingston HealthCare.</li>
	<li>Develops an annual education plan to include updates and continued education specific to medical coding, release of information, chart abstracting and analysis, privacy, and regulatory rules and guidelines.</li>
	<li>Develops and maintains departmental policies and procedures to ensure security, confidentiality and release of medical records and acts as Custodian of Medical Records in compliance with current state and federal rules and regulations.</li>
	<li>Participates actively in continuing quality improvement and compliance in the Medical Record Department and hospital wide.</li>
	<li>Works with department heads and administration in establishing efficient methods for maintenance of the medical record in relationship to other departmental needs.</li>
	<li>Designs and implements production standards and quality control standards within the Medical Record Department.</li>
	<li>Plans the department in such a way as to facilitate the flow of work and achieve completion of the medical record as rapidly and as efficiently as possible.</li>
	<li>Develops and maintains methods of numbering, filing, and coding of charts.</li>
	<li>Oversee completion and submission of Tumor Registry and Vital records data and ensures timely filing.</li>
	<li>Prepares and is knowledgeable with ad hoc reports to provide consistent, accurate, and timely data for internal or secondary reporting purposes.</li>
	<li>Maintains proficiency in proper medical coding and adheres to established coding guidelines and conventions, compliances policies, and coding updates.</li>
	<li>Oversees My Health Portal function and privacy.</li>
</ol>

<p><em><strong>ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: </strong></em></p>

<ol>
	<li>Assists in evaluating current standards for completion of medical records and input of data into the record. Advises on possible actions to be taken in cases of incomplete records.</li>
	<li>Works closely with Patient Financial Services, Registration, Administration, Compliance, and Privacy Officer.</li>
	<li>Active participant in UR, CQI, compliance, medical staff, and other committees as desired.</li>
	<li>Reviews and makes suggestions on hospital health record forms and format improvements.</li>
	<li>Performs other duties as required. </li>
</ol>

	<li>Completion of Registry or Accreditation examination and maintaining of current credentials.</li>
	<li>Two years� experience required.</li>
</ol>
