Description:
RESPONSIBILITIES:  <ul><li>The primary responsibility of the Hospital Outpatient Coder III position will be to work through the extreme complex coding and charging structure for interventional cardiology, interventional radiology, and other high risk outpatient coding encounters to ensure the highest level of code accuracy based on physician documentation.</li><li>Uses clinical coding expertise based on the Official Coding Guidelines, AHA Coding Clinic, and the Society of Interventional Radiology to assign ICD-9/ICD-10 and CPT codes.</li><li>Works closely with charging staff, physicians, clinical documentation improvement specialist, quality, and patient finance staff.</li><li>Plays a key role in billing, research, internal and external reporting, and regulatory compliance. Follows-up on CCI edits, claim rejections, CDM and other issues impacting the quality and facilitation of billing and reimbursement.</li><li>The incumbent will also ensure accuracy of APCs, CPT code links for IR procedures, and appropriate extraction of core data into HIM abstracting system to data warehouse repository.</li></ul> MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  <ul><li>High School diploma or equivalent. Three years of interventional cardiology and interventional radiology coding. CIRCC preferred or CPC, CPC-H, CCA, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P certified.</li><li>Must complete coding proficiency evaluation. Anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, clinical pharmacology, basic PC skills. Pay Rate:  $19.00/Hour
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

<li>Submit medical claims to appropriate payer.</li>
<li>Ensure resubmission of claims, when applicable, are accurate.</li>
<li>Ensure reimbursement of claims by submitted the most appropriate coding for services performed.</li>
<li>ICD diagnosis coding, modifier application and verification of CPT and/or HCPCS codes.</li>
<li>Responsible for ensuring all claims processed through Emdeon (Change Healthcare) are correct and compliant.</li>
<li>Responsible for performing payer enrollment follow up·</li>
<li>Keeps abreast of and comply with coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.</li>
<li>Daily review and follow up on all incomplete electronic provider-billing encounters.</li>
<li>Identify issues, correct code and/or pend due to missing information.</li>
<li>Keep up to date on medical insurance rules and proper filing guideline.</li>
<li>Answer patient calls/questions, clinic staff calls, and insurance company calls.</li>
<li>Maintain a professional relationship with insurance companies and patients.</li>
<li>Other duties as assigned.</li>

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

<li>Minimum 3 years of experience of medical ICD & CPT coding experience preferred.</li>
