The Medical Coder is a remote position with requirements to be located within 2 hours drive from Shepherdsville, Kentucky.  
 
Overview
The Medical Coding Specialist ensures the accuracy of medical coding. We are looking for a routine task oriented, quick learner who treats our patients and staff with the utmost respect and “customer love”.  If you are a certified coder, who enjoys working methodically and accurately, this is the job for you.  
 
Duties/Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Daily interaction over the phone with patients/customers to answer questions or receive payments.</li>
<li>Daily coding of patient visits.</li>
<li>Assisting team members with billing and insurance questions.</li>
<li>Weekly billing of patient visits through employee rotation pattern.</li>
<li>Daily phone interaction with insurance companies to resolve issues with payments.</li>
<li>Filing electronic insurance claims, appeals</li>
<li>Responding to denials of claims</li>
</ul>
Required Skills/Abilities:
<ul>
<li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills by phone or in person</li>
<li>Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills</li>
<li>Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial, and Workers’ Compensation insurance billing guidelines.</li>
<li>Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records.</li>
<li>Previous experience with claims, payment posting, denials and appeals and coding.</li>
<li>This is a "work from home" position and therefore, you must be able to work full days with no interruptions.</li>
</ul>
 
Education and Experience:
<ul>
<li>High school diploma or equivalent</li>
<li>Certificate in Coding preferred</li>
<li>At least two years coding experience required</li>
</ul>
Physical Requirements:
<ul>
<li>Constant periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.</li>
<li>Constant use of hands for typing.</li>
<li>At least 50% of the day requires speaking by phone. </li>

Performs patient chart audits to ensure coding is appropriate for the clinical documentation.&nbsp;&nbsp; Keeps close communication with EMS staff in an effort to update and communicate coding rules and regulations.&nbsp; Performs complex patient bill coding related to Emergency Medical Services.</li>
			<li style="list-style-type:decimal;">Follows coding guidelines and standards of ethical coding by scrutinizing the clinical documentation within the entire medical record to perform ICD-10-CM selection of principal diagnosis, secondary diagnosis, procedure, and CPT-4 codes where appropriate.&nbsp; Abstracts and enters coded information into the computer system for data collection and billing purposes.</li>
			<li style="list-style-type:decimal;">Prepares and/or assists with preparation of miscellaneous correspondence/documents (letters, agendas, minutes, charts, agreements, reports, etc.).&nbsp; Provides general clerical support to include distribution of materials, filing, faxing, and copying. Composes, transcribes, and keyboards letters, memos, procedures, and reports for the Director and the department.</li>
			<li style="list-style-type:decimal;">Examines, reconciles and prepares for approval the payment of invoices of services provided to the department to include vendor bills.</li>
