This team builds and modernizes the technology that powers submission intake, data enrichment, underwriting decisioning, and rating workflows across Global Specialty lines of business. This is an early career role for engineers who want to grow deep technical skills in Java based services, data persistence, and performance critical systems, while learning how complex insurance workflows are automated at scale.   Responsibilities <ul><li>Contribute to the design, development, testing, and maintenance of Java/J2EE applications for E2E underwriting lifecycle. </li><li>Build and enhance Spring Boot–based REST APIs under guidance from senior engineers </li><li>Implement data persistence using ORM frameworks (Hibernate/JPA) with PostgreSQL and exposure to NoSQL data stores </li><li>Assist with caching strategies (e.g., in-memory or distributed caching) to improve throughput and response times </li><li>Support integration patterns across intake, rating, and downstream policy systems </li><li>Write clean, testable, and maintainable code aligned with engineering standards </li><li>Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, backlog refinement, and sprint delivery </li><li>Troubleshoot defects, analyze logs, and assist with performance tuning </li><li>Learn and apply modern engineering practices, including CI/CD and automated testing </li><li>⁠Communicate Effectively: Proactively communicate risks, issues, and mitigations to stakeholders. </li><li>Embrace Future Technologies: Lead innovative efforts, leveraging modern technologies to solve customer problems. Knowledge of implementing solutions through Gen AI (Artificial Intelligence) is a plus. </li></ul>This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).  Qualifications <ul><li>1–3 years of software development experience, including academic or internship projects </li><li>Technical Skills: Strong understanding of Object-Oriented design, Java.J2ee technologies , front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, JSON, Angular/React, XML, XSLT, SQL), and cloud platforms (preferably AWS, GCP). Must have strong working experience as a Designer/Developer of REST/SOAP API services. </li><li>Knowledge of Orchestration frameworks like Temporal is a nice to have. </li><li>DevOps Knowledge: Experience with continuous integration and DevOps tools (GitHub, Jenkins, Rally, SonarQube). </li><li>Tech Savvy: Passionate about staying current with technology trends, experimenting with modern technologies, and participating in internal tech communities. </li><li>Agile Practitioner: Experience with agile or scrum methodologies. </li><li>Soft Skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. </li><li>Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience) </li></ul>Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position. CompensationThe listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. Your Role:
<ul>
<li>Enhance sophisticated low touch systematic rebalancing platform that helps the company manage all investment strategies and order generation workflows.</li>
<li>Build or extend data and services platforms, optimization, and orchestration and validation engines; portfolio rebalancing and order generation platform and services; back-testers and related historical simulation tools; and, scalable AWS-based storage and computing infrastructure.</li>
<li>Collaborate directly with researchers and portfolio managers to translate quantitative models into scalable engineering solutions.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Enhance system reliability and performance through rigorous testing, monitoring, and continuous integration practices.</li>
<li>Contribute to the evolution of trading infrastructure by integrating new data sources and optimizing execution workflows; and, participate in architectural decisions and code reviews to ensure high standards of software quality and maintainability.</li>
<li>Telecommuting permitted two days per week.</li>

What You’ll Bring:&nbsp;

<li>Requires Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Financial Engineering, Operations Research, or a related quantitative field of study plus three (3) years of experience in the job offered or a related role.&nbsp; Must have three (3) years of experience with object-oriented programming languages including Java and Python; designing and translating solutions into high-quality code; Mathematical Optimization techniques, objective function, and constraint setups; developing and designing cloud-based distributed micro-services; and, building quantitative finance applications utilizing knowledge of equity and macro asset classes.</li>
