The Software Development Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and administrative leadership of one of ASI's software engineering teams. This role is focused on team health, process discipline, project coordination, and organizational effectiveness. The ideal candidate has enough software background to communicate credibly with engineers and understand team context but will lean heavily on the technical expertise of the team itself. You will own the people, the process, and the plan. In addition to people and process management, this role serves as the product owner for embedded software systems, owning backlog prioritization and ensuring the team's roadmap aligns with broader platform objectives.

<h3>Responsibilities:</h3>
<ul>
<li style="tab-stops: list .5in;">Serve as the direct manager for software engineers, including performance reviews, career development conversations, and day-to-day employee support.</li>
<li style="tab-stops: list .5in;">Maintain awareness of individual workload distribution and proactively address imbalance or ownership gaps across high-priority work.</li>
<li style="tab-stops: list .5in;">Foster a team culture consistent with ASI's core values: Simplicity, Safety, Transparency, Humility, Attention to Detail, and Growth.</li>
<li style="tab-stops: list .5in;">Track team deliverables, milestones, and sprint commitments; surface blockers or risks to program leadership before they become schedule impacts.</li>
<li style="tab-stops: list .5in;">Support agile ceremonies including sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog grooming as needed, working in coordination with the team's Scrum Master.</li>
<li style="tab-stops: list .5in;">Ensure the team is following and continuously improving its embedded software development processes, including CI/CD practices, documentation standards, and code review cadence.</li>
<li style="tab-stops: list .5in;">Provide leadership and mentorship to team members, ensuring their continuous development and alignment with organizational goals.</li>
<li style="tab-stops: list .5in;">Serve as the primary organizational point of contact between a software team and other engineering disciplines (Electronics, GNC, Perception) and program management.</li>

<h3>Required Qualifications:</h3>
<ul>

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
</li>
<li style="line-height: 115%;">
5+ years of experience as a software engineer or related individual contributor role.
</li>
<li style="line-height: 115%;">
3+ years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role managing engineering teams.
</li>
<li style="line-height: 115%;">
Experience with Agile software development methodologies and team execution practices.
</li>
<li style="line-height: 115%;">
Solid understanding of software architecture, system design, and scalable application development.
</li>
<li style="line-height: 115%;">
Experience managing projects with moderate complexity, including planning, execution, and delivery.
</li>
<li style="line-height: 115%;">
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with engineers, leadership, and customers.
</li>
<li style="line-height: 115%;">
Comprehensive understanding of software development processes, tools, and lifecycle management.
</li>
