Summary
 
AxisCare is hiring a full-time, fully remote mid-level Software Engineer to join a team that's actively rethinking how software gets made.
 
Does this sound familiar? You're a skilled developer, and you can see where things are heading. The engineers who are just coders — the ones whose value came from being the person who could translate a spec into working code — are the ones AI is going to eat up first. You don't want that to be you. You want to get ahead of this by going deep on the things that still matter: system architecture, software design, and a real understanding of the problems you're solving. This is a senior-track position, and you'll find a team of senior and staff engineers deeply invested in your growth.
 
We're no longer building the car by hand, so to speak. We're building the factory that makes great cars, with humans in the loop where the human touch matters most. We want engineers who are genuinely energized by that shift and want to help figure out what it means in practice. You'll join an autonomous project team working on our market-leading home care SaaS, built on a PHP web stack with a React/TypeScript frontend. You'll ship real features for real agencies whose operations depend on our software.
 
There will always be a need for people who deeply understand our customers' most important problems, solve them with high-quality software, and run that software reliably in production. That's the work that endures, and that's the work we're hiring for.

What This Role Actually Looks Like
 
You'll be building well-scoped features with oversight and mentorship from senior and staff engineers who are deep in this work. But a mid-level engineer is something very different in 2026 than it was two years ago. Concretely, we expect you to:

<li>Use AI as a core part of how you build. Not as a novelty or a copilot for autocomplete, but as a primary tool for prototyping, exploring, refactoring, writing tests, and shipping. We want to hear about the workflows you've developed, where agents work well for you, and just as importantly where they break down. </li>
<li>Push the tools until they fail, then tell us about it. We're actively mapping the frontier. An engineer who tries something ambitious with AI, hits a wall, and writes up what they learned is more valuable to us than one who sticks to what's comfortable. </li>
<li>Care about the problem, not just the code. Since writing code is no longer the scarce resource, understanding what we should build and why it matters to home care agencies matters more than ever. The engineers who thrive here get curious about customers and operations, not just tickets. </li>
<li>Ship quality software that's easy to change. High-quality software is valuable now and easy to change later. Moving fast with AI only works if the work holds up. </li>
<li>Manage your time to ship on time. Make meaningful progress on what matters and avoid getting lost in unimportant details. This is more important than ever when AI makes it easy to chase rabbit holes. </li>
<li>Share what you're learning. This is a team sport, and the team only gets better if wins and lessons travel. </li>
<li>Write well. Good writing matters here. Remote work demands it, clear writing is clear thinking, and clear thinking is how you get the biggest impact from AI.</li>

What We're Looking For
 
<ul>
<li>At least 2 years of professional experience on teams building web apps with the full PHP stack, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript </li>
<li>Experience building React apps in TypeScript </li>
<li>Working knowledge of object-oriented programming and relational databases (MySQL or similar) </li>
<li>Comfort with Git and collaborative development </li>
<li>Demonstrated, substantive use of AI coding tools in real projects. We don't need you to have mastered every agent on the market, but we do need concrete examples of what you've built with them, how your workflow has evolved, and a point of view on where they help and where they don't. "I use Copilot for autocomplete" isn't what we mean. </li>
<li>A mindset of software development as a team sport, preferring team success over personal achievement </li>
<li>A humble, always-a-student attitude. The ground is moving under all of us. The people who do best here assume they have a lot to learn and act on it. </li>
<li>Based in the US (Eastern, Central, or Mountain time zones) and authorized to work in the US or Canada</li>
</ul>
 
What We'd Be Excited to Find
 
<ul>
<li>A habit of pushing AI tools past their comfort zone and thoughtful opinions about what you've seen. Agent-driven development, non-trivial refactors, prototyping throwaway versions to learn, etc.  </li>
<li>Experience building for cloud-native environments </li>
<li>Familiarity with HIPAA-compliant software </li>
<li>Experience designing RESTful APIs and integrating third-party APIs </li>
<li>A blog, a GitHub with substantive projects, recorded talks, discussions about tough product development decisions you've had to make, or anything else that shows how you think about building software in this moment</li>
</ul>

<h2>Objectives</h2>A Full Stack Software Engineer will play a key role in the ongoing evolution of the core Red Oak platform. This is a complex, multi-tenant system with deep business logic, Compliance-Grade AI solutions, legacy components, and rapidly expanding modern services.This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact by delivering innovative products and features to our ever-expanding client base. As a Full-Stack Software Engineer at Red Oak you'll be immersed in every phase of the software development life cycle, from brainstorming in design meetings to fine-tuning and debugging based on client feedback. Your role will involve designing, developing, testing, and supporting your features, ensuring they not only meet client needs but also live up to our high standards of quality. In addition, you will help to establish team norms around responsible, high-leverage AI-assisted development.Starting out, your primary focus will be contributing to a ground-up redesign of our enterprise SaaS platform's user interface and user experience. You'll be involved from day one, helping shape component architecture and setting the standard for how our product looks and feels for years to come. Strong UI instincts and a high bar for quality are a must.<h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li>Translate complex UX designs into pixel-precise, accessible, and performant frontend implementations, including component architecture decisions, state management patterns, and responsive layout systems.</li><li>Build and maintain scalable full-stack applications with a focus on integrating or exploring AI/ML capabilities, including LLMs, RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, and MCP-based tool integrations.</li><li>Contribute to backend services within your domain, developing working knowledge of their intent, design, and evolution.</li><li>Support improvements to legacy behaviors by applying modern workflow patterns under the guidance of senior engineers.</li><li>Support platform reliability by writing high-quality, testable code and collaborating with QA to ensure strong unit, integration, and API coverage across critical workflows.</li><li>Participate in code reviews and technical discussions to build consistency and maintainability across the team.</li><li>Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues involving multi-step workflows, state transitions, service interactions, and legacy-to-modern integration points.</li><li>Contribute to architecture documentation, onboarding materials, and technical design records to support long-term team scalability.</li><li>Support compliance initiatives with secure coding, documentation, and process rigor.</li><li>Collaborate cross-functionally to design AI-powered features, evaluate emerging models and tools, and own the full lifecycle from prototype to deployment.</li><li>Leverage AI coding tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, etc.) to accelerate development velocity, write and review AI-generated code with a critical eye, and champion best practices for safe, effective AI-assisted engineering across the team.</li></ul><h2>Competencies</h2><h3>Required</h3><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li>3–5 years of experience in software development.</li><li>Proficiency in Vue, Angular, or React (Vue 3 preferred).</li><li>Strong knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS3.</li><li>Experience with Java EE.</li><li>Understanding of database technologies (SQL, NoSQL).</li><li>Ability to leverage agentic AI tools (e.g. Claude, Cursor, Copilot) as a core part of your development workflow, with a bias toward shipping faster and smarter.</li></ul><h3>Preferred</h3><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li>Familiarity with Java MVC frameworks.</li><li>Familiarity with microservice and micro-frontend architectures.</li><li>Proficiency with Microprofile REST Client.</li><li>Proficiency in writing tests using Vitest, Jest, and JUnit.</li><li>Familiarity with TypeScript.</li><li>Experience with Bootstrap 4 or Bootstrap 5.</li><li>Experience creating reusable components using Vue 3.</li><li>Prior experience in a SaaS software company and/or product development environment.</li><li>Understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAG).</li><li>Experience with Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira.</li><li>Familiarity with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes.</li><li>Ability to adapt to new feature requirements or direction based on client or internal feedback.</li></ul><h2>Work Structure</h2>Red Oak values the energy and creativity that comes from working together in person.
