Supports software development tasks in aerospace research and flight systems under the supervision of senior engineers. Assists in developing, testing, documenting, and maintaining software used in flight systems, simulations, instrumentation, and ground support systems for NASA research aircraft and related aerospace platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

<ul>
	<li>Assist in decomposing project and system requirements into software requirements.</li>
	<li>Support development of software for flight vehicle control, real-time systems, data acquisition, and ground support applications.</li>
	<li>Perform coding, debugging, and testing of software components using appropriate programming languages and tools.</li>
	<li>Help prepare and maintain technical documentation including software requirements, design, test plans, and user guides.</li>
	<li>Participate in verification and validation (V&amp;V) testing of software systems.</li>
	<li>Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including avionics, controls, instrumentation, and safety personnel.</li>
	<li>Learn and apply NASA software assurance, system safety, and airworthiness standards.</li>
	<li>Contribute to Control Room and field operations as needed under the direction of senior engineers.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
	<li>Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.</li>
	<li>0–2 years of experience in software development, preferably in embedded or aerospace systems.</li>
	<li>Familiarity with one or more programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Python, MATLAB/Simulink).</li>
	<li>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; attention to detail.</li>
	<li>Ability to follow defined software development processes and NASA documentation standards.</li>
	<li>U.S. citizenship required; ability to obtain a security clearance if necessary.</li>
</ul>

Preferred Qualifications:

<ul>
	<li>Exposure to aerospace platforms, simulation environments, or real-time operating systems.</li>
	<li>Experience or coursework in systems engineering, controls, or avionics.</li>
</ul>

Familiarity with software configuration management tools and test automation frameworks.

Position Overview

Join NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center’s Advanced Systems Development &amp; Integration team supporting cutting-edge aerospace research and flight test missions. This role provides hands-on engineering experience supporting development, integration, and testing of advanced flight and ground systems. 
You will work alongside experienced engineers to translate system requirements into real-world hardware and software solutions supporting innovative aircraft and mission capabilities.

 

Key Responsibilities

Support development, integration, and testing of advanced aerospace systems and components 
• Assist in translating system requirements into hardware and software design solutions 
• Participate in bench testing, troubleshooting, and system validation 
• Support system integration across flight and ground systems 
• Assist with technical documentation, procedures, and reports 
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams 
• Support laboratory development and checkout activities 
• Participate in test execution, data collection, and analysis 
• Support troubleshooting and anomaly resolution
