Space Ground System Solutions has a full-time opening for a Software Developer working onsite at our customer facility located in Welcome, MD. Our focus is to provide our customers with practical, state of the art solutions to complex communications, command, control and intelligence applications. The position is for a software developer to design, implement, test and validate software used to command and control satellites and payloads on orbit.

General Experience:
Zero (0) to five (5) years of software engineering/development experience, knowledge of high-level programming language(s)

Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Develop software using in a wide variety of application technologies in a Linux environment</li>
<li>Design and implement software for large-scale command and control systems</li>
<li>Troubleshoot and report software anomalies</li>
<li>Apply agile development practices and techniques to adapt rapidly to changing requirements and schedules</li>
<li>Ability to support a periodic on call rotation</li>
</ul>

Required Skills/Abilities:
<ul>
<li>Proficiency developing and testing software in a Linux environment</li>
<li>Experience with programming languages such as Java, Go, JavaScript, C/C+, Python</li>
</ul>

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Experience using Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) </li>
<li>Familiarity with Secure coding practices</li>
<li>Experience with container technologies (Kubernetes/Docker/Podman)</li>
<li>Experience writing scripts (examples: shell scripting, python, NodeJS.)</li>
<li>Experience using software configuration management tools (examples: git, Bitbucket, Jira, etc.)</li>
<li>Familiarity with web technologies (examples: HTML, CSS, React, REST, JSON, WildFly, etc.)</li>

Required Education:

<li>Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science/Engineering or other relevant Engineering field from an accredited university or equivalent combination of formal education and experience</li>

<li>Must meet eligibility requirements associated with obtaining a DoD Secret clearance</li>

Software Developer

0-5 years software engineering experience; Linux environment proficiency; Java, Go, JavaScript, C/C++, Python knowledge.

As part of the Research & Advanced Development group, you will research and develop new approaches to solving challenging manipulation problems for real-world robotics systems, allowing them to understand and interact with their environment in unprecedented ways. Your work will contribute to enhancing the capabilities of our robotic solutions and explore new solutions and approaches, unlocking new value we deliver to our customers. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the cutting edge of robotics applied to real-world challenges.
 
This role will be onsite at the Bedford, MA office. This position will run from approximately July to December 2026 (dates flexible).
 
We are seeking interns in a variety of disciplines related to robot learning including:
<ul>
<li>Imitation learning for complex, agile manipulation behaviors with suction and finger-based grippers</li>
<li>Reinforcement learning to improve manipulation robustness and dealing with new situations</li>
<li>AI systems (VLM, other) applied to various warehouse tasks, such as dealing with unexpected situations, dense packing, or error/damage detection. </li>
</ul>
 
Functions:
<ul>
<li>Perform applied research in robot learning to address real-world warehouse challenges</li>
<li>Collaborate with other researchers and engineers to apply research findings to our robots</li>
<li>Leverage production data and our internal development systems to implement and evaluate your solutions</li>
</ul>
 
Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Currently pursuing an advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Robotics, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a closely related field.</li>
<li>Strong software development expertise in Python; C++ is a plus</li>
<li>Demonstrated proficiency with major deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch</li>
<li>Experience with modern machine learning methods such as imitation learning, reinforcement learning, generative models, vision transformers, or related.</li>
<li>Exposure to developing ML models for hardware interacting with the real world</li>
<li>Experience developing in Linux (Ubuntu) and ROS</li>
</ul>
