SUMMARY
&nbsp;
We're hiring a Backend Software Engineer to support a high‑visibility, data‑driven application used across the organization for analytics and reporting. You'll help build and maintain core backend services, develop RESTful APIs, support data‑driven functionality, and contribute to ongoing system enhancements within a Linux‑based environment. Your work will directly support system reliability, performance, and data accuracy for mission stakeholders. Our primary development team operates out of Gaithersburg, MD, but we also support onsite engineers in Alexandria, VA; Chantilly, VA; St. Louis, MO; and Tucson, AZ, giving top talent multiple paths to join the mission.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
&nbsp;

<li>Backend Development: Design, develop, test, and maintain backend application components using Java or Python</li>
<li>REST API Development: Develop and maintain RESTful services to support application functionality and system integrations</li>
<li>Object-Oriented Programming: Apply object-oriented design principles to build scalable and maintainable systems</li>
<li>Database Development: Write and modify SQL queries to support application functionality and data retrieval</li>
<li>Data Source Collaboration: Collaborate with internal and external teams to understand data sources, formats, and access methods, and support integration into backend systems</li>
<li>Linux Environments: Develop and troubleshoot applications within Linux-based environments</li>
<li>Data Processing &amp; Business Logic: Implement backend logic for data transformation, processing, and system workflows</li>
<li>Bug Fixing &amp; Enhancements: Identify, debug, and resolve application-level defects and performance issues</li>
<li>Code Quality: Follow coding standards, participate in code reviews, and support documentation efforts</li>

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
&nbsp;
<ul>
<li>
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field with 8–12 years of experience; or a Master's degree with 6–10 years of experience
</li>
<li>US Citizenship</li>
<li>Active TS/SCI with the ability to successfully pass a Polygraph</li>
<li>Professional experience developing object‑oriented applications in Java or Python</li>
<li>Hands‑on experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs</li>
<li>Basic to moderate experience with SQL capability, including writing queries and working with relational databases</li>
<li>Working knowledge of Linux‑based environments</li>
<li>Ability to work independently on defined tasks within established technical frameworks and deliver reliable results</li>
</ul>

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

<li>Experience with Apache Airflow or similar workflow orchestration technologies</li>
<li>Experience with Spring Boot, Django, or similar backend frameworks</li>

Builds Engineer I
 
The Builds Engineer I is responsible for designing, configuring, and deploying IT environments for clients, including setting up new workstations, laptops, servers, networking solutions, virtual machines, and cloud-based infrastructure. This role involves building custom environments based on client needs, automating deployments, and ensuring solutions are optimized for performance, scalability, and security. The Builds Engineer I works closely with technical and project management teams to deliver robust infrastructure solutions and contributes to the Company’s service offerings by providing high-quality, reliable build processes.
 
Key Responsibilities:  
<ul type="disc"><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Configure and deploy laptops, workstations, servers, network equipment, virtual machines, and cloud-based resources to meet client specifications.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Design and build custom IT environments tailored to client requirements, ensuring adherence to industry best practices.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Set up and configure systems for scalability, performance, and security, leveraging virtualization and cloud technologies where applicable.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Develop and implement automation scripts and workflows to streamline the build process, improve efficiency, and reduce manual effort.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Use configuration management tools (e.g., Immybot, Ansible, Puppet, or Terraform) to automate deployments and maintain consistency across environments.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Regularly review and optimize scripts and automation processes to ensure they align with changing technologies and client needs.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Conduct thorough testing of new builds, including performance benchmarking, security checks, and functionality tests.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Ensure that all deployments meet quality standards, and work closely with QA and support teams to identify and resolve any issues before client handover.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Document test results and communicate findings to internal teams to support continuous improvement.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Document build configurations, processes, and system architectures to ensure clarity and consistency for ongoing maintenance.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Maintain an internal knowledge base of build standards, troubleshooting steps, and best practices for use by the broader technical team.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Provide technical guidance and documentation to clients on build processes, usage instructions, and system maintenance tips.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Work closely with project managers, account managers, and client representatives to understand project requirements and client goals.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Participate in client discussions to provide insights on technical feasibility, deployment timelines, and resource needs.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Offer post-deployment support and troubleshoot issues related to newly deployed environments.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Propose and implement improvements to build processes, infrastructure design, and automation to enhance service delivery and efficiency.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Ensure that all builds comply with relevant security standards, client policies, and regulatory requirements.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Implement security best practices in system configuration, including network segmentation, firewalls, access controls, and data encryption.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="font-size:10pt">Conduct regular audits of build processes to ensure they meet compliance standards and proactively address any vulnerabilities.</li></ul>
Qualifications:
