As Vice President of Engineering, you will define the technical vision, scale high-performing teams, and drive innovation across complex, data-intensive platforms. Outcomes products are primarily comprised of software, both running in the cloud and at the edge, and include both integration with and development of new utility-focused intelligent endpoints. Expected to embed AI-driven design, automation, and engineering intelligence into our development lifecycle while fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement. </div><div>Duties and Responsibilities </div><div><ul><li>Guide and Develop Talent: Mentor and grow a world-class engineering organization, empowering teams to deliver customer-centric solutions with authenticity and accountability. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Define Technical Strategy: Define and execute cloud architecture strategies leveraging modern engineering practices, distributed systems, and secure-by-design concepts. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Deliver Innovative Solutions: Leveraging both Itron and third-party endpoints and networks, deliver solutions to our utility customers that address their business goals and meet their expectations in terms of reliability, accuracy, scale and security. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Embed AI Innovation: Operationalize AI-assisted design, coding, testing, and optimization to enhance velocity, quality, and operational intelligence. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Foster Collaborative Culture: Cultivate an environment of psychological safety, high trust, and agility, enabling teams to experiment, learn, and own outcomes. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Cross-Functional Partnership: Develop effective relationships with Outcomes Product Management and other internal teams, as well as across Itron Business Units, to ensure alignment and achieve measurable business results.  </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Performance Excellence: Establish and monitor KPIs for reliability, customer outcomes, and engineering productivity, driving continuous improvement. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Ensure Resilience and Security: Promote operational resilience and compliance across the platform ecosystem. </li></ul></div><div> </div><div>Required Skills &amp; Experience </div><div><ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field; master’s degree preferred. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>12&#43; years of progressive engineering responsibility, including managing large, distributed, technical teams. Proven experience architecting and delivering enterprise-grade cloud-based solutions running Microsoft Azure, AWS and other hyperscalers </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Demonstrated success integrating AI into the software development lifecycle (e.g., AI-assisted coding, automated testing, intelligent monitoring, generative design tools). </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Technical expertise in cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, embedded firmware, system-level APIs, and large-scale data solutions. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Proficiency in modern programming languages (.NET, Java, Python) and DevOps/CI/CD automation. </li></ul></div></div><div><div><ul><li>Strengths in strategic thinking, talent development, and inspiring high performance. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Exceptional communication skills with the ability to align both internal and external stakeholders and influence outcomes. </li></ul></div><div> </div><div>Preferred Skills &amp; Experience </div><div><ul><li>Experience with large-volume data ecosystems, real-time streaming, or event-driven architectures. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Familiarity with regulated or complex enterprise environments. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Advanced technical degree or executive-level engineering management experience. </li></ul></div></div>Itron is committed to building an inclusive and diverse workforce and providing an authentic workplace experience for all employees.
