Kidwell is looking for a hard-working, positive, and self-motivated individual to join our team as a Summer Application Specialist Intern. This internship is a summer-only, full-time opportunity designed for students pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field who are eager to gain hands-on experience in software development, API integration and AI/ML initiatives.
The primary function of this position will be to support the Application Specialist in developing and integrating software solutions across the organization. The intern will contribute to real-world technical projects, including a focused AI/ML initiative. Other tasks and responsibilities will depend on the intern’s abilities and the needs of the department.
This is a unique opportunity to gain real-world experience in API development and AI/ML applications while working alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities
·         Assist in analyzing, designing, and supporting RESTful APIs and software integration.
·         Write and optimize SQL queries to support reporting, automation, and application functionality.
·         Develop and test Python-based scripts and applications.
·         Assist with converting SQL queries into API calls using JSON or XML.
·         Support troubleshooting efforts and help identify opportunities for process improvements.
·         Participate in the development lifecycle - including testing, documentation, and implementation.
·         Complete a summer AI/ML-focused project that may include data analysis, predictive modeling, or automation initiatives.
·         Complete special technical projects and other miscellaneous assignments as needed.
 
 
 Required Qualifications
·         Candidates must currently be working toward a Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
·         Working knowledge of Python and SQL is required.
·         Coursework or a minor in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or Data Science is preferred.
·         Basic understanding of RESTful APIs, object-oriented programming, and database structures is preferred.
·         Honesty, dependability, organization, and strong attention to detail are essential to this position.
·         Possesses strong verbal, written, communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
·         Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with technical and non-technical team members.

Application Specialist Intern

Pursuing a Bachelor’s in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or related field; Python and SQL knowledge; AI/ML coursework preferred; basic REST APIs; strong communication and problem-solving.

Overview:
Physicians Mutual  is seeking motivated students who are passionate about emerging technologies and eager to gain real-world experience in software testing and quality assurance. Our internship program offers hands-on training, personalized mentorship, and meaningful project work to help you grow your skills and make an impact.  As an intern, you’ll be integrated into a dedicated quality assurance team responsible for the testing, validation, and support of our production systems. These teams operate within an Agile/Scrum environment, following the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) to ensure high-quality releases, continuous improvement, and reliable system performance. 

Responsibilities:
This is a 12-month, onsite internship opportunity.

Qualifications:
<ul><li>College Junior or Senior - Preferred</li><li>Completion of at least two computer programming courses with a grade of “B” or higher</li><li>Strong interest in developing skills in software testing</li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite</li><li>Familiarity with Java, Python, and SQL - Preferred</li><li>Understanding of the software development and testing lifecycles - Preferred </li><li>Theoretical knowledge of testing approaches (unit, integration, acceptance, etc.) - Preferred </li><li>Exposure to DevOps tools and cloud technologies - Preferred </li><li>Experience with Microsoft Access, SQL, or Excel VBA macros - Preferred </li><li>Knowledge of the insurance industry is a plus - Preferred </li></ul>
