Job Summary
The Aerodynamics Engineer works closely with the Advanced Design & Development group to support data reduction, analysis, and design activities for both existing and conceptual aircraft. Core responsibilities include preliminary configuration and layout studies, aircraft performance analysis, stability and control evaluations, flying qualities assessments, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), structural loads development, and weight estimation.
Aerodynamicists collaborate with the product development team throughout the entire design lifecycle of an aircraft or aircraft modification. Early in the program, the aerodynamicist guides the external geometry (lofts) and overall layout of the new configuration. They generate performance predictions and structural load estimates for airframe designers and analysts. 
During experimental flight testing, the aerodynamicist provides test planning, on-site support, data reduction, and interpretation of results and aircraft characteristics. At the conclusion of the program, they prepare certification documentation demonstrating compliance with applicable federal regulations.
Successful candidates are highly motivated, proactive, and eager to master new technical skills with minimal supervision. They must be capable of delivering high‑quality work at the appropriate level of detail while balancing schedule, technical, and program requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions
<ul>
<li>Perform preliminary configuration and layout of a new aircraft.</li>
<li>Provide preliminary performance estimates. Provide design guidance for slow speed handling characteristics</li>
<li>Provide estimates for airplane performance such as cruise speed, stall speed, rate of climb, take-off and landing distances, etc. Estimate the effect of design changes on airplane performance.</li>
<li>Support developmental flight testing. Troubleshoot and implement solutions for aerodynamic short comings such as drag, cooling, stability and control, and slow speed handling.</li>
<li>Reduce flight test data to extract meaningful data and present it clearly. Determine what test points are required for the analysis.</li>
<li>Provide system instrumentation location and flow field measurement error estimates and necessary corrections.</li>
<li>Provide external flow analysis to assist in the aerodynamic design of new airplanes and modifications to existing airplanes.</li>
<li>Track and estimate weight and center of gravity for existing and conceptual airplanes. Use this knowledge of the distributed mass of the airplane to compute inertial loads on the airplane.</li>
<li>Provide structural loads in support of structural substantiation.</li>
<li>Write Part 23 compliance reports for the structural loads of the airplane.</li>

The Flight Simulation Engineer within Advanced Design & Development (AD&D) is responsible for building, maintaining, and executing modular flight simulation environments to support early aircraft development and pilot evaluations. As the AD&D Principal Engineer for System Automation, this role serves as the technical authority for systems management and automation related development and architecture for the Cirrus Advanced Design and Development (AD&D) Group. This role establishes the long-term automation technology roadmap, defines architecture principles and guardrails, and leads early-stage concept development from initial ideation and hypothesis generation through prototyping, simulation, and technology maturation. Operating at the intersection of sensing, controls, avionics, embedded systems, networking, and flightdeck technologies, the position ensures strong cross-functional alignment and cohesive system integration.
Beyond technical direction and execution, this role drives early safety, certification planning, and verification strategy for automated behaviors in collaboration with certification, safety and program leadership. The Principal Engineer will work closely with Subject Matter Experts in avionics, electrical, mechanical, human factors, software systems and flight test. This role also leads iterative learning cycles to refine concepts through rapid prototyping, evaluation, and continuous improvement. As a senior technical authority, the Principal Engineer coaches engineers and internal and external stakeholders, elevating the organization’s capability in aircraft automation and strengthening the engineering culture that supports innovation and technical excellence.
 
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions
<ul>
<li>Serve as AD&D technical authority for system automation to reduce pilot workload, simplify vehicle operations, and increase safety.</li>
<li>Work closely with Chief Engineers, systems engineering, avionics, software engineers, test pilots, and human factors engineers to develop desired system functions, behaviors, and pilot interaction.</li>
<li>Define automation mode logic and system behavior (including failure management, annunciation, and crew alerting) in partnership with systems engineers, human factors, and flight test.</li>

As a Dispatch Administrator, you will analyze and evaluate dispatch data with an emphasis on producing recommendations necessary to drive continuous improvement in mining operations. Summary of Responsibilities:     <ul><li>Ensure data integrity, monitor and maintain dispatch system performance.  Manage/implement fixes, improvements and upgrades to the system. </li></ul><ul><li>Assure proper functionality of shovel, truck, drill, and support equipment GPS-based system interfaces. </li></ul><ul><li>Assure proper functionality of data radio transmission networks. </li></ul><ul><li>Support Mine Operations by optimizing the utilization of the dispatch system to assure maximum productivity.   </li></ul><ul><li>Assist engineering, maintenance, and operations in the resolution of any and all dispatch issues.   </li></ul><ul><li>Manage dispatch system vendor to provide all necessary repairs and upgrades of the mine dispatch system. </li></ul><ul><li>Analyze and evaluate dispatch data with an emphasis on producing recommendations necessary to drive continuous improvement in mining operations. </li></ul><ul><li>Manage dispatch reporting system and database as required to provide timely and accurate data produced from both vendor and mine developed reports.  Write custom reports as required by mine personnel and management. </li></ul><ul><li>Repair and/or restore computer hardware, software, and networking. </li></ul><ul><li>Support the implementation of hourly and dispatcher performance feedback reporting, utilizing system information.  </li></ul><ul><li>Identify and justify future purchases and mine management system improvements.  </li></ul><ul><li>Remain current with industry developments surrounding dispatch and mine management hardware, software, and data management.   </li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li></ul>Required Qualifications:      <ul><li>Experience with database management tools/languages is strongly preferred </li></ul><ul><li>A degree in computer engineering, computer science, similar field, or equivalent experience </li></ul>Preferred Qualifications: <ul><li>Previous experience with SQL  </li></ul><ul><li>Previous experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is desired </li></ul><ul><li>Previous experience with data analysis tools (such as Python, R, or other scripting languages) is desired </li></ul><ul><li>Previous experience with report automation is desired </li></ul><ul><li>Work in a mining environment preferred.  </li></ul><ul><li>Experience with Modular dispatch system </li></ul>Regular attendance is an essential requirement. Must be able to physically perform all these responsibilities safely: walk on uneven surfaces, climb equipment, operate pickup, and other small fleet vehicles, etc.The salary range for this role is $80,000 to $100,000.  An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location and business or organizational needs.  Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. is the largest flat-rolled steel company and the largest iron ore pellet producer in North America.
