ENTRUST Solutions Group Canada is seeking a Field Engineer – Power Systems to support power generation facilities across Canada. This role combines hands-on field testing with advanced analytical modeling, reporting, and regulatory compliance work. Projects range from small generation facilities (3 MW) to some of Canada’s largest assets (1,400+ MW), spanning hydroelectric, gas, steam, and nuclear technologies.
Under the guidance of a Senior Engineer, this role provides technical leadership during field assignments while contributing to complex generator modeling and compliance initiatives. This position is ideal for engineers who enjoy both in-plant, hands-on work and deep analytical problem-solving within the power systems domain.
<h3>Key Responsibilities</h3>
<h4>Field Engineering</h4>
<ul>
<li>Lead on-site generator testing at hydroelectric, gas, steam, and nuclear power plants.</li>
<li>Direct plant operators and engineering staff through advanced testing procedures.</li>
<li>Install, validate, and troubleshoot high-precision data acquisition and monitoring equipment.</li>
<li>Make critical, real-time engineering decisions during complex testing scenarios.</li>
<li>Ensure safety compliance, test quality, and adherence to standardized procedures.</li>
<li>Analyze test data using internally developed software tools.</li>
<li>Serve as technical lead during field assignments and mentor junior engineers.</li>
<li>Apply power systems and analog circuit fundamentals in real-world environments.</li>
<li>Interface with major generator OEMs and technologies (e.g., GE, Siemens, ABB).</li>
</ul>
<h4>Remote / Office Engineering</h4>
<ul>
<li>Develop generator, exciter, and control system models for power system studies.</li>
<li>Perform advanced analysis of test data using proprietary internal tools.</li>
<li>Prepare high-quality NERC compliance reports and technical documentation.</li>
<li>Develop and refine test plans and methodologies for future projects.</li>
<li>Provide subject-matter expertise in generator dynamics, simulation, and control systems.</li>
<li>Coordinate with utilities, ISOs, OEMs, and plant engineering teams.</li>
<li>Remain available for periodic travel as required (minimum ~20%).</li>
</ul>
<h3>Basic Qualifications</h3>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a closely related discipline.</li>
<li>Relevant engineering experience in one or more of the following:
<ul>
<li>Power systems analysis</li>
<li>Generator modeling</li>
<li>Field testing or commissioning</li>
<li>Control systems and/or excitation systems</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Licensed Professional Engineer in Canada (P.Eng.) or eligible for licensure.</li>
<li>Strong understanding of synchronous generators, excitation systems, and system stability.</li>
<li>Advanced experience with MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, PSS®E, or equivalent power system tools.</li>
<li>Strong technical writing, reporting, and documentation skills.</li>
<li>Willingness and ability to travel to client sites across Canada (up to 30%).</li>
</ul>
<h3>Preferred Qualifications</h3>
<ul>
<li>Experience developing engineering tools or software using Python, C/C++, or similar languages.</li>
<li>Hands-on experience with generator controls, protection systems, or commissioning activities.</li>
<li>Familiarity with NERC MOD and PRC standards or similar regulatory frameworks.</li>
<li>Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and on-site decision-making capabilities.</li>
<li>Residence within approximately one hour of a major Canadian airport.</li>
