Job Description:How will you make a difference?This is an entry‑level position intended for early‑career engineers and recent graduates with a strong foundation in embedded systems and a desire to grow through hands‑on learning and mentorship.The Software Test Engineer (STE) plays a critical role in the design, development, and maintenance of test plans, test procedures, and test automation tools used to validate embedded software in electronic control systems deployed in the rail industry.The STE will be required to contribute to designing and developing high quality software test processes for a fast-paced environment.The successful candidate will collaborate closely with project teams while also working independently to develop technical solutions, execute test procedures, and deliver thorough, high-quality test reports.What will your typical day look like?As a Software Test Engineer, you will:<ul><li>Review and analyze system and software requirements for testability</li><li>Develop detailed test plans and test procedures</li><li>Create, execute, and maintain test cases with 100% requirements traceability</li><li>Perform manual and automated software validation on embedded electronic control systems</li><li>Document results and produce clear, comprehensive test reports</li><li>Maintain effective communication with peers, developers, and stakeholders</li><li>Assist with laboratory equipment setup, tracking, organization, and maintenance</li><li>Explore, design, and implement test automation solutions to improve efficiency</li></ul>Required Qualifications<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline</li><li>Basic understanding of electronic control systems, microcontrollers, and hardware/software integration</li><li>Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, adapting to changing priorities and timelines</li><li>Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly and concisely</li></ul>Desired Skills<ul><li>Entry‑level or internship experience in embedded software testing</li><li>Hands‑on experience testing and debugging software, firmware, and hardware‑based systems</li><li>Experience developing programmatic test solutions or automation, using Python, C, and/or C++</li><li>Experience with the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows and Linux</li><li>Experience with application lifecycle management tools supporting requirements traceability, test case development, and workflow management (e.g., IBM ELM)</li><li>Experience working with geographically distributed teams</li><li>Exposure to or interest in the rail and transportation industry</li><li>Understanding of Agile development methodologies, such as Scrum, in an embedded systems environment</li></ul>Training and mentorship will be provided. Candidates with coursework, lab experience, internships, or capstone projects in embedded systems are strongly encouraged to apply.Wabtec will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the U.S. for this opening.
