What We Are Looking For
The&nbsp;<a href="https://sites.baylor.edu/wright-lab/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Wright Group</a> in the Departments of Biology and Chemistry &amp; Biochemistry at Baylor University is seeking a postdoctoral research associate with expertise in proteomics/metaproteomics.&nbsp;
The Wright Group is focused on phenotype-driven studies of gut and oral microbiomes. Within this focus, the research group has a strong program in the characterization and quantification of proteins from complex, host-associated microbiomes. This position will develop novel quantitative metaproteomics approaches to characterizing the gut microbiome in inflammatory bowel disease.&nbsp;
We are hoping to extend our expertise by identifying exceptionally motivated individuals with a Ph.D. in&nbsp;chemistry, biochemistry or biological sciences with significant training and hands-on expertise in mass spectrometry, quantitative proteomics, and bioinformatics and must have excellent communication skills and team work ability.&nbsp;
Additional skills of interest include experience in one or more of the following areas: microbiome sciences, cell sorting, pathogen biology, protein expression, cell culture, cell biology, molecular biology, and/or functional assays.
What You Will Do
<ul>
 <li>Develop and execute independent research in phenotype-driven microbiome studies mass spectrometry-based omics experiments</li>
 <li>Develop novel metaproteomics experimental and computational approaches</li>
 <li>Collaboratively develop novel ideas and methods for applications relevant to internal and externally funded research programs. In addition, the selected candidate will be required to contribute to, and possibly lead, the preparation of reports, papers, posters, presentations, etc.</li>
 <li>Keep accurate and current records of all results from experiments performed, document methods and processes</li>
 <li>Present your research</li>
 <li>Provide mentorship to graduate and undergraduate students</li>
 <li>Participate in the proposal writing and submission process</li>
 <li>Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission</li>
 <li>Ability to comply with university policies</li>
 <li>Maintain regular and punctual attendance</li>
</ul>

Postdoc Research Associate

PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, or biological sciences with mass spectrometry, quantitative proteomics, and bioinformatics experience; strong communication and teamwork.

Ph.D. in paleobiology, ecology, evolutionary biology, geosciences, or related field; strong experience with large ecological/paleobiological datasets; strong quantitative skills in R or similar environments.

Support research design and execution<ul><li>Execute and oversee the research components of data-driven Harmony Labs projects, from design through execution and delivery.</li><li>Contribute independent reasoning and execution to ensure successful and timely delivery of projects.</li><li>Collaborate with other research staff to contribute to and deliver on research plans that provide valid, reliable answers to complex questions about how media works and how Harmony Labs and its partners can use that knowledge to achieve their goals.</li><li>Implement methodologically sound research using a range of approaches (e.g., survey design and analysis, predictive modeling, community detection, natural language processing, neighborhood analysis, clustering, and network analysis) and research tools, including R, Python, and AI, aligned with Harmony Labs’ standards for rigor, innovation, and AI use in research.</li><li>Conceive, operationalize, and analyze surveys to better understand the values that audiences hold, how they react to media, or other purposes.</li><li>Identify ways to improve research methods, including data retrieval, modeling, archiving, and visualization practices.</li><li>Manage external analytic and research resources, including contractors, consultants, annotators, and vendors, ensuring their work meets Harmony Labs’ standards and integrates smoothly into project workflows.</li></ul>Translate findings into actionable insight<ul><li>Synthesize research findings in ways that are actionable, understandable, and usable for both technical and non-technical audiences.</li><li>Produce clear, coherent written and verbal explanations of methods, findings, and implications for practice.</li><li>Tailor communication of methods, results, and implications to the needs of different audiences, connecting insights to decisions and next steps.</li><li>Communicate across teams about research progress, key insights, risks, and opportunities, and develop and share mitigation and change plans as needed.</li></ul>Drive innovation in research methods<ul><li>Independently and in collaboration with other members of the research team, contribute to innovation and experimentation in research and data science methodologies, tools, and technologies to improve research outcomes and deliver actionable insights.</li><li>Stay abreast of and participates in relevant scholarly, industry, and practitioner communities to bring new ideas and best practices into Harmony Labs’ work.</li></ul>Undertake other duties and responsibilities as needed<h3 style="margin-left:0px;">Who You Are</h3><ul><li>You are curious, independent, strategic, brave, and kind</li><li>You thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative research environment with a high-volume workload often requiring short turnaround times.</li><li>You are deeply collaborative.
