Why This Role Exists
Our data platform runs on a modern stack — Matillion, Snowflake, and GitLab — and the pipelines powering it need a dedicated owner. This role exists to take ETL development, orchestration, and Snowflake warehouse administration off the VP's plate and put them in the hands of someone who treats data infrastructure as a craft. Success looks like pipelines that run reliably, a Snowflake environment that is well-structured and cost-efficient, and a data layer that the rest of the analytics team can build on with confidence.

Key Responsibilities:
<ul style="margin-top:0in" type="disc"><li class="MsoNormal">Own the full ETL/ELT development lifecycle using Matillion — building, maintaining, and optimizing pipelines that move data from source systems into our Snowflake bronze and silver layers reliably and on schedule</li><li class="MsoNormal">Take strategic ownership of our Snowflake environment — this is more than administration; we're at a maturity inflection point and need someone who will drive architecture decisions, enforce cost governance through resource monitors and warehouse right-sizing, establish performance standards, and evolve our bronze/silver/gold layer into a platform the business can depend on for years</li><li class="MsoNormal">Manage pipeline orchestration and scheduling — ensuring jobs run in the right order, failures are caught early, and alerting is in place so issues surface to the right people before the business notices</li><li class="MsoNormal">Own data quality monitoring across ingestion and transformation layers — implementing checks, validation logic, and remediation workflows that give downstream consumers confidence in what they're working with</li><li class="MsoNormal">Collaborate with the Senior BI Developer & Analytics Engineer on gold layer structure and transformation logic — your pipelines feed their reporting layer, so alignment on data contracts, naming conventions, and schema evolution is a shared responsibility</li><li class="MsoNormal">Maintain and enforce source control discipline using GitLab — all pipeline and transformation code is version-controlled, peer-reviewed, and deployed through a repeatable process</li><li class="MsoNormal">Manage integrations with source systems — working across internal operational platforms, financial systems, and third-party data sources to ensure ingestion is stable, documented, and recoverable</li><li class="MsoNormal">Document infrastructure, pipeline logic, and data lineage at a standard that makes the platform understandable to both technical and non-technical stakeholders — partnering with the Senior BI Developer on Secoda to keep the catalog current</li><li class="MsoNormal">Proactively identify and remediate technical debt in the pipeline and warehouse layer — this platform was built to move fast; part of this role is making it built to last</li><li class="MsoNormal">Lead our exploration of Snowflake Cortex — as an emerging ownership area, you'll evaluate and build out ML and LLM capabilities natively within Snowflake, including Cortex functions for text analysis, classification, anomaly detection, and embedding-based workflows; this is greenfield territory and you'll have real influence over how we develop it</li><li class="MsoNormal">Manage your work in agile scrum using Jira — maintaining a well-groomed backlog, participating in sprint planning and retrospectives, and keeping your work visible and prioritized without needing to be chased</li><li class="MsoNormal">Contribute to AI/ML infrastructure as a broader growth area — beyond Cortex, there is scope to build data foundations that support model training, feature engineering, and automated analytical workflows as the platform matures</li></ul>

Required Qualifications:
<ul style="margin-top:0in" type="disc"><li class="MsoNormal">3+ years of hands-on data engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of production ETL pipelines and a cloud data warehouse environment</li><li class="MsoNormal">Proficiency with Matillion or a comparable ETL/ELT tool (Fivetran, Airbyte, Informatica, Talend) — we use Matillion and prefer candidates who know it, but strong experience with another enterprise-grade tool and the ability to ramp quickly is acceptable</li><li class="MsoNormal">Strong Snowflake administration experience — virtual warehouses, resource monitors, RBAC, data clustering, and a practical understanding of how to keep a Snowflake environment performant and cost-controlled; bonus if you've been the person who matured a Snowflake environment from functional to optimized, rather than just inherited a well-run one</li><li class="MsoNormal">Strong SQL proficiency — complex transformations, performance debugging, and the ability to write and review transformation logic across layers</li><li class="MsoNormal">Git-based version control in a team environment — branching strategy, pull requests, and code review are part of your normal workflow, not an afterthought</li><li class="MsoNormal">Experience with pipeline orchestration and monitoring — you've built alerting and recovery logic, not just scheduled jobs and hoped for the best</li><li class="MsoNormal">Comfortable working in agile scrum — you manage your own backlog, participate meaningfully in sprint ceremonies, and keep your work visible without needing to be chased; experience with Jira is preferred</li><li class="MsoNormal">Prior experience working in a lean, high-ownership environment — startup, scale-up, or a small team inside a larger company where you wore multiple hats</li></ul>

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications:
<ul style="margin-top:0in" type="disc"><li class="MsoNormal">Direct Matillion experience (Matillion ETL or Matillion Data Productivity Cloud)</li><li class="MsoNormal">Familiarity with dbt for transformation layer development — we use Matillion as our primary ETL tool but understanding dbt patterns is additive as our stack evolves</li><li class="MsoNormal">Experience in telecom, ISP, or infrastructure-heavy industries — familiarity with subscriber data, network metrics, or capital-intensive operational data models is a plus</li><li class="MsoNormal">Exposure to Secoda or another data catalog/lineage tool for documenting pipeline infrastructure</li><li class="MsoNormal">Foundational knowledge of Python for pipeline scripting, API ingestion, or data quality automation</li><li class="MsoNormal">Hands-on experience or strong interest in Snowflake Cortex — familiarity with Cortex ML functions, LLM capabilities, or embedding workflows within Snowflake is a meaningful differentiator for this role</li><li class="MsoNormal">Experience with or strong interest in AI/ML infrastructure — feature stores, model pipelines, or data infrastructure supporting machine learning workflows</li><li class="MsoNormal">Hands-on experience with generative AI tools and frontier models and genuine enthusiasm for how they can be embedded into data engineering workflows — automation, anomaly detection, and pipeline observability are all areas we expect to explore</li></ul>
