Job Description

Position Summary:


The K–12 Art Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering a comprehensive visual arts program that fosters creativity, artistic expression, and appreciation for the arts among students in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade. The teacher will develop students’ skills in various art forms while aligning instruction with state standards and district curriculum goals.




Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Instruction & Curriculum



  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned to state and district visual arts standards

  • Provide instruction in a variety of media, techniques, and art history concepts

  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and abilities

  • Incorporate cross-curricular connections when appropriate

  • Foster creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills


Classroom Environment



  • Establish and maintain a safe, organized, and positive classroom environment

  • Manage classroom behavior in alignment with district expectations (e.g., PBIS framework)

  • Ensure proper use, care, and storage of art materials and equipment


Assessment & Data Use



  • Assess student progress through formative and summative methods

  • Provide timely and meaningful feedback to students and families

  • Use data to inform instruction and support student growth


Program Development



  • Organize and display student artwork throughout the school and community

  • Coordinate art shows, exhibitions, or school events

  • Maintain an organized inventory of supplies and materials

  • Develop and manage art budgets in collaboration with administration


Collaboration & Communication



  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and administration

  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff

  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and staff meetings

  • Support school-wide initiatives and culture-building activities


Professional Responsibilities



  • Maintain appropriate licensure and endorsements

  • Participate in professional development opportunities

  • Stay current with best practices in art education

  • Uphold district policies, procedures, and ethical standards
