Paraeducator – Special Education One-to-One - Temporary

  

Reports to: Principal                                                              Location: Fords Prairie Elementary

Bargaining Unit: Part-Time Teamsters                                 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Classification: Special Education Paraeducator

 

Job Summary: 

Special Education Paraprofessionals work closely with students with a variety of special needs in close collaboration with the Special Education Teacher and the classroom teacher(s) to ensure the student’s independent educational plan requirements are being met and that the student is successful in multiple settings.

 

Required Qualifications:

·       Associates Degree or higher or a minimum of 72 college quarter hours or successful passing of the ETS test

·       Right Response Trained or willingness/ability to be trained

·       First Aid/CPR certification or willingness/ability to be trained

·       Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, possess awareness (for self and others), listen actively, be patient, incorporate humor/lightheartedness into work, be empathic, possess a growth mindset, and be customer-service oriented

·       Ability to provide and follow oral and written communications

·       Demonstrated organizational skills and flexibility to respond to changing student needs

·       Ability to maintain confidentiality, work independently and in a team setting, and effectively problem-solve

·       Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families

·       Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive attitude

·       Ability to support the District’s vision, mission, and goals including the belief that all students can succeed

·       Ability to attend trainings

·       Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Ability to speak Spanish

·       Successful experience working with students experiencing behavioral and/or social emotional challenges

·       Successful experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds

 

Essential Functions:

·       Provides directed and targeted learning experiences for students in the area of social/emotional behavior support and academic support as defined by student needs and directed by certificated staff members

·       Monitors student behavior in the classroom with a focus on safety and academics

·       Implements behavior strategies and program modifications in accordance with student behavior plans

·       Safely de-escalates students

·       Collects and charts data as directed by certificated staff member

·       Prepares materials and keeps records related to positive behavior intervention plans, emergency response protocols, or individual education plans

·       Assists with accessibility for students such as lunch time, opening doors, picking up and returning students to bus drop, etc.

·       Attends meetings, trainings, and clinics as appropriate and/or directed

·       Attends to personal care needs as assigned throughout the educational environment including but not limited to transferring to and from a wheelchair, catheter changes, toileting, personal hygiene, and feeding

·       Other duties as assigned

 

Salary: 

$20.23 - $27.01 hourly, Depending on experience and qualifications

$.50 per hour additional for employees with an Associate of Arts degree or higher

$.50 per hour additional for employees who fluently speak, write, and read Spanish

 

Work schedule:

5.7 hours per day (schedule to be determined) – temporary for the remainder of the 2025-26 school year

 

Benefits:

Paid holidays; sick leave days and personal leave days pro-rated to the percentage of the year left and other fringe benefits as allowed under the Part-Time Teamsters Collective Bargaining Agreement.
