Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Develop a comprehensive library media program that engages students, promotes reading, and encourages the utilization of library resources.

  • Foster a welcoming environment that encourages students to utilize the library for reading, research, and homework.

  • Develop and maintain a collection of resources appropriate to the curriculum, the learners, and the teaching styles and instructional strategies of the school community.

  • Supervise the library and ensure the safety and well-being of the students while in the library.

  • Develop and coordinate initiatives that promote reading throughout the school and encourage active engagement between all students and library resources.

  • Identify innovative reading, research and library media trends and incorporate resources and programs that reflect best practice.

  • Manage the purchasing, organizing, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of library resources including books, textbooks, Chromebooks, hotspots, calculators, and equipment.

  • Efficiently manage the library budget to provide the most appropriate and effective resources for students throughout the year.

  • Provide instruction to students on reading strategies, research skills, and media literacy based on Library Media standards.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support students’ learning needs.

  • Actively participate in building initiatives for leadership, vision, culture, school improvement, communication, and learning.

  • Share appropriate library media knowledge and skills with teachers, students, families, and community members.

  • Stay knowledgeable on school technology devices and programs in order to support teachers and students in using technology.


Qualifications



  • Master’s Degree

  • Valid AR teaching license (Library Media)

  • Clean background check

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of relevant technology


Physical requirements*



  • Be able to stand for the majority of the school day in order to effectively monitor and supervise students

  • Be able to sit, stand, lean, reach, bend, lift and squat to assist students as needed

  • Be able to walk on uneven surfaces

  • Be able to walk up and down stairs

  • Be outside in all weather conditions for assigned duty (recess, before school drop offs, after school pick- ups and field trips)
