CTE Welding Teacher


 


Job Description:
This program prepares students for careers in the welding industry through 1,080 hours of instruction (3 hours per day, 5 days per week, over 2 years). Students who complete the program will earn AWS certifications in SMAW, MIG, TIG, and FCAW, and may earn up to 30 dual college credits through Ivy Tech.


Students will be prepared to:



  • Enter the workforce in a welding-related career

  • Enroll in a related postsecondary program

  • Begin an apprenticeship training program


The teacher is responsible for maintaining effective classroom management, planning and leading advisory meetings with industry partners, and building strong connections between classroom instruction and workforce expectations. The selected candidate must also become credentialed to teach Ivy Tech dual credit courses and complete the required Workplace Specialist coursework to obtain and maintain the Workplace Specialist Teaching License.


Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher licensing is based on relevant work experience, education, and industry certifications. A traditional teaching license is not required; however, the selected candidate must complete a one-year teacher preparation program after being hired.


 


Minimum Qualifications:



  • High school diploma required; some college coursework preferred

  • AWS certification in SMAW, MIG, TIG, and FCAW (or comparable industry certifications)

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills

  • Documentation of work experience, education, and certifications required to obtain a Workforce Specialist Teaching License

  • Willingness to complete Workplace Specialist coursework and Ivy Tech credentialing requirements

  • Successful completion of a criminal background check


Pay and Work Schedule:



  • Salary and benefits are based on the New Castle Schools teacher contract

  • Standard 183-day contract, with additional days based on program enrollment
