Lead Software Engineer – Cloud Native Applications (GCP)

The Offer Optimization Team is expanding as we modernize our platforms and move seamlessly to the cloud to build the next generation of software solutions. We are seeking a Lead / Principal Software Engineer with deep expertise in cloud-native application development on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

The successful candidate is an experienced technology leader who understands the entire application lifecycle—from architecture and design to development, deployment, testing, and production operations—while remaining hands-on and driving engineering excellence.

Responsibilities

Cloud-Native Application Engineering

  • Partner with Product Management to translate business requirements into scalable, cloud-native technical solutions.
  • Own end-to-end application design and reviews, ensuring architectural quality, resilience, and scalability.
  • Lead the modernization of application tech stacks, adopting cloud-native patterns and managed GCP services.
  • Design, develop, and deliver high-performance microservices and APIs.
  • Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, reliability, and cost of cloud-hosted applications.
  • Build applications designed for horizontal scalability, fault tolerance, and graceful degradation.

Architecture & Platform Leadership

  • Collaborate with Architects to define and evolve the technical roadmap.
  • Propose and implement architecture-level enhancements across Dev, Stage, and Production environments.
  • Drive best practices for cloud-native design, including stateless services, asynchronous processing, and event-driven architectures.
  • Evaluate and adopt new technologies that improve system performance, reliability, and developer productivity.

DevOps, CI/CD & Operations

  • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for cloud-native applications on GCP.
  • Drive automation across build, test, deployment, and infrastructure provisioning.
  • Work closely with platform and SRE teams to ensure strong observability, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues in distributed systems.
  • Contribute to cost-aware engineering, balancing performance, reliability, and cloud spend.

Technical Leadership

  • Lead and mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and ownership.
  • Drive improvements to reduce technical debt and systemic pain points.
  • Take a hands-on approach to prototyping and proof-of-concepts to validate architectural decisions.
  • Document and maintain architecture diagrams, runbooks, and operational guides.

Required Skills

Application Development

  • 8+ years of experience building enterprise-grade software applications.
  • Strong hands-on experience in Java-based application development.
  • Experience building cloud-native microservices and RESTful APIs.
  • Experience with frontend technologies such as ReactJS or Angular (full-stack exposure preferred).

Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

  • Strong experience with GCP services, such as:
    • Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)
    • Cloud Run / App Engine
    • Pub/Sub
    • Cloud SQL / BigQuery / Firestore
    • Cloud Monitoring & Logging
  • Understanding of cloud-native networking, security, and IAM concepts.

Cloud-Native & DevOps

  • Proficiency with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows, and automation.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or equivalent).
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting for distributed systems.

Data & Integration

  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Familiarity with event-driven and data-intensive systems.
  • Exposure to Big Data or data engineering concepts is a plus.

Engineering Excellence

  • Experience driving design reviews, code reviews, and quality standards.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and innovate when standard solutions are insufficient.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field (Master’s Degree preferred).
  • 8+ years of professional experience building and operating enterprise-grade software systems.
  • Proven experience delivering cloud-native applications in production environments.
