Job Description


JOB TITLE: EMS Flight Paramedic 



DEPARTMENT: EMS First Flight of Wyoming



REPORTS TO: EMS Director/ EMS Base Supervisor



JOB SUMMARY



To provide optimum critical/emergency care to sick or injured patients transported by aircraft or other vehicle to/from scenes and medical facilities in the region.



JOB REQUIREMENTS




  • Current Wyoming EMT-Paramedic and National Registry – Paramedic.

  • Montana State Licensed Paramedic – within 12 months of hire.

  • Ability to successfully perform all duties within applicant scope inside confined spaces with no limitations.

  • Ability to successfully pass physical agility and endurance assessment with no limitations upon hire, annually and as needed.

  • Must maintain body weight as to fit into the seat belts/shoulder harness as provided by the aircraft manufacture without modification to those safety devices.

  • Crew weight restriction is 225 pounds fully dressed at the time of hire, and must maintain within this requirement at all times.

  • Clean-shaven at all times.



EXPERIENCE



Required: 3 years minimum of ALS, critical care experience.



Preferred: 3 – 5 years of ALS critical care experience as a flight/ground transport paramedic. Previous flight experience.



SKILLS



To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirement list must be representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or ability required.




  • Regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts is required.

  • Ability to work nights, holidays and/or weekends is required.

  • Must be able to pass a physical health assessment examination upon hire.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-function team.

  • Ability to successfully function in a fast paced, service-oriented environment.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Experience in understanding usage of computers and ability to learn new programs relevant to the position.

  • Altitude Physiology.

  • EMS communications (Radios) and familiarization with EMS systems.

  • Familiarity with extrication devices and rescue operations.

  • General aircraft safety.

  • Hazardous materials recognition and response.

  • Highway scene safety management.

  • Survival training/techniques/equipment that is pertinent to the environment/geographic coverage area of the medical service.

  • Human Factors – Crew Resource Management – AMRM (Air Medical Resource Management).

  • Stress recognition and management/resilience.

  • Recognize signs of fatigue.

  • Safety and risk management training.

  • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations.

  • Knowledge of agents, equipment, procedures, and techniques for the provision of emergency and critical care for inter – facility and scene transports.

  • Ability to withstand exposure to noise, external weather conditions, and work in high altitudes.



REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS



Required:




  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS)

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

  • Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) – within 12 months of hire

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – within 12 months of hire

  • FEMA 100/200/700/800 – within 6 months of hire

  • Certified Flight Paramedic (FP-C) - within 24 months of hire

  • Current clean Wyoming driver’s license.



Preferred:




  • Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS)

  • Certification in Critical Care Emergency Transport Program (CCEMTP)

  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) audit or Transport Professional Advanced Trauma Course (TPATC)
