New Way Trucks is currently seeking a motivated Sustaining Engineering Summer Intern to support our engineering and manufacturing teams. This internship provides hands-on experience in mechanical design, testing, documentation, and cross functional collaboration in a production environment. The intern will work closely with engineers, production staff, and vendors to support product development and continuous improvement efforts.
Your Role in our Mission:
- Generate and maintain design documentation, including mechanical drawings in SolidWorks and technical specifications using Microsoft Word.
- Produce highly accurate, to-scale drawings following company and industry standards.
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for company-manufactured products.
- Document assembly and subassembly procedures to support manufacturing and quality requirements.
- Maintain an up-to-date drawing control system, ensuring all files are properly documented, filed, and revision-controlled.
- Work cross-functionally with other departments, including manufacturing, quality, and operations, on active projects.
- Support initiatives focused on quality improvement, design optimization, and time and cost savings.
- Communicate effectively with all production areas to ensure engineering information is accurate and current.
To Perform this Job Successfully:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
- Familiarity with SolidWorks or similar CAD software
- Basic understanding of mechanical drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing processes
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
