The Ingredient Scientist makes an impact by 

The Ingredient Scientist role is responsible for driving cost savings initiatives (CSIs) through ingredient optimization and cross-functional collaboration, while supporting frozen and beverage product development projects as needed.

  • Lead cross-functional cost optimization initiatives, including ingredient matching, replacements, and new ingredient development.
  • Partner with Procurement to evaluate and prioritize short- and long-term cost-saving opportunities.
  • Design and execute line trials to validate new ingredients and formulations, ensuring processing feasibility (including CSI items).
  • Collaborate closely with Operations and Supply Chain to ensure seamless scale-up and implementation.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify, scope, and develop new products and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Support project teams through Stage-Gate processes, providing technical guidance, tracking cost savings, and communicating progress and gaps to inform decision-making.
  • Support frozen and beverage product development as needed, including leading select projects when required.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with all corporate and regulatory quality, GLP, and safety regulations.
  • Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Food Safety and Quality.
  • Demonstrate the ability to engage work in department and cross-functional teams to define and implement process improvements that provide value to the customer.
  • Be accountable to the Turkey Hill Food Safety and Quality Principles.
  • Perform all duties within established Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and FSMA guidelines as well as all safety regulations.
  • Comply with Safe Quality Foods (SQF) food safety and quality standards.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

  • B.S. or M.S. in Food, Dairy, or related science field with a minimum of 5 years within an R&D function in a consumer product goods (CPG) company and ideally within the food and/or beverage category (may include graduate and/or internship experience), or Ph.D. with 2+ years of post-graduate or industry food and/or beverage experience
  • Strong computer skills, especially in the MS Office suite
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral)

Physical Demands -

  • The employee is required to talk and/or hear in an office setting (noise level is low) and manufacturing setting where noise levels can be high (PPE required).
  • The employee is frequently required to stand and walk in an office or manufacturing environment from 4-8+ hours.
  • The employee must be able to ascend and descend stairs, and where applicable and when necessary, to perform various job-related tasks.
  • Must be able to position self to move, reach with arms/hands, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed to perform various job-related tasks.

  • Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception and adjust focus.
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds and/or push/pull 20 pounds on a regular or occasional basis.
  • Must have ability to travel to clients, customers, or other work sites by a variety of transportation methods.
