    GENERAL SUMMARY:
    Saginaw Public Schools Campus Patrol Officers are responsible for being a visible deterrent by providing a safe and secure learning environment for students and a safe and secure working environment for staff.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    1. Knowledge of school policies
    2. Knowledge of potential fire hazards, unsafe conditions and other security hazards
    3. Skilled in investigation techniques
    4. Skilled in incident reporting
    5. Skilled in effective presentation techniques in one-on-one and small group environments
    6. Skilled in de-escalation and take down techniques
    7. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and reports
    8. Ability to work in a multi-cultural, urban setting with and develop a rapport with students, staff, parents and the school community

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Assist building administration with on-site investigation of any violation of school regulations, city ordinances, state statues or federal law under school jurisdiction
    2. Assist building administration in the enforcement of school rules, provisions of law and control of crowds and individuals
    3. Make written reports of security violations as requested by building administration/Director of Human Resources & Labor Relations.
    4. Cooperate with outside officials or official agencies including local, state or federal law enforcement or fire service agencies
    5. Serve as a liaison with probation officers and other officers of the court assigned to students under jurisdiction
    6. Maintain flexible hours in order to assist with after school, nighttime, and weekend activities
    7. Perform work related to safety and security as assigned
    8. Regular and predictable attendance
    9. Regulate vehicle and pedestrian traffic at building entrance to maintain an orderly flow
    10. Report potential fire hazards, unsafe conditions and other security hazards to building administrator
    11. Observe departing personnel to prevent theft of district assets
    12. Patrol buildings, parking lots, and school grounds
    13. Make appropriate referrals to administration concerning unacceptable student behavior
    14. Investigate questionable student activity
    15. Monitor campus access
    16. Perform other duties as assigned

     
    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

    1. High school graduate or equivalent
    2. Post-secondary education or experience in security, criminal justice, or law enforcement required
    3. Associate's degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement (or equivalent) preferred

     
    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Attend mandatory training sessions as indicated by the Building Principals/Director of Human Resources & Labor Relations.
     
    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about the school building and the school grounds.  The person in this position frequently interacts with students and must be able to distinguish between what is appropriate and what is inappropriate activity and act accordingly.  This employee must be able to engage in the physical management of students in order to maintain a safe environment for students and others.  This person will be working both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, and must be physically able to stand and/or walk. to patrol the buildings and grounds.
