Position Open Until Filled - First Screening Date: 5/7/26

Days/Hours: Not to exceed 56 hours - 36 hours for half days of 56 hours for full days

Program Dates: August 3-7

Coordinating Program: May 19 - August 7

Work collaboratively with the Principal to ensure coverage during program hours. (Including Program Hours & Coordinator hours)

Job Summary:

The Hoquiam School District is seeking a passionate and dedicated KinderKamp Coordinator to lead our summer program for incoming kindergarten students. This role is designed for an experienced educator who is committed to fostering meaningful relationships, engaging young learners, creating adaptive learning pathways, and strengthening community connections. The coordinator will oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the KinderKamp program, ensuring it aligns with our district's mission and values.

Key Responsibilities:

Meaningful Relationships:

  • Build a positive, supportive, and inclusive environment where young children feel safe, valued, and excited to learn.
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to establish strong, trusting relationships that support student success.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to KinderKamp staff, fostering a collaborative relationship.

Engaged Learners:

  • Support teachers in designing and delivering dynamic relationship, developmentally appropriate instructional programs based on best practices.
  • Encourage innovative teaching strategies that ignite curiosity and active participation among all students.
  • Guide teachers in monitoring and assessing student progress through formal and informal tools to ensure meaningful academic gains.
  • Organize engaging enrichment activities that connect learning to students' interests and strengths.
  • Demonstrate successful experience working with struggling learners.

Adaptive Pathways:

  • Develop adaptive schedules, group assignments, and learning pathways to meet each student’s individual needs.
  • Train staff to differentiate instruction and interventions for diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Provide individualized support when challenges arise, including stepping into instructional roles when needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, academic progress, and behavior to adjust programming responsively.

Community Connections:

  • Collaborate with families to strengthen learning partnerships at home and in the community.
  • Manage logistics such as transportation, food services, and building use to ensure a smooth and supportive program experience for all stakeholders.
  • Work with the HR department to recruit and hire highly qualified summer program staff in collaboration with the Director of Student Support Services.
  • Coordinate and align program activities with district goals and community agency partnerships.

Qualifications:

  • Holds a Washington State Teaching Certificate
  • Demonstrated evidence of classroom management
  • Knowledge of various instructional strategies and instructional best practices 
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience, especially when working with struggling learners 
  • Willingness to be first aid/CPR certified
  • Preference given to those holding a current Administrative certificate, enrolled in an Administrative certificate program, or have experience coordinating summer school/programs
  • Must provide assistance to KinderKamp staff, as needed, while KinderKamp programs are in session, and is required to be on site during KinderKamp program days/hours. This may include substituting for any staff member due to absence. 

Working Conditions:

  • The KinderKamp Coordinator position requires work both in office settings and classroom environments.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, sit, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, twist, push, and pull as needed to engage with students and assist staff.
  • Must be physically able to lift and carry up to 24 pounds occasionally; may need to assist in handling students weighing up to 200 pounds in emergency situations.
  • Regular interaction with young children, including providing one-on-one, small group, and whole-class support.
  • Expected to work within scheduled KinderKamp program hours on-site, flexibility required to provide support or substitute for staff when necessary.
  • Exposure to noise levels typical of a lively early learning environment.
  • May require occasional driving between district sites; must possess or have access to reliable transportation.
  • Ability to perform duties under potential stress when managing student needs and ensuring program safety.
  • Regular communication with parents, staff, administrators, and community partners is required.


Salary: Per CBA


Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
