    Job Title: Benefits Specialist 

    Reports To: Immediate Supervisor

    Summary: The Benefits Specialist is responsible for all tasks necessary to complete and maintain the employee benefits system. The position performs accounting, clerical and secretarial work in the routine performance of responsibilities.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

    • Maintains benefit system to accurately reflect employees' health insurance elections and inputs system data to record such elections.
    • Explains available benefits to employees, and assists with the completion of required paperwork.
    • Provides information for new hires and terminated employees concerning benefit options.
    • Processes member enrollments, policy changes, health claims, and death claims as submitted.
    • Prepares insurance premium refunds and checks for deposit.
    • Posts and reconciles manual premium payments.
    • Prepares manual bills when necessary to collect health premiums.
    • Assists with the payroll process.

    Other Duties:

    Essential Functions/Qualifications/Requirements: 

    Education and Experience:

    An Associate's degree from an accredited institution required. Four (4) years experience in finance, business or accounting can be substituted for an Associate's degree.

    Technological Abilities:  

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in general use of a computer, the use of Email as a form of communication, and other job-specific equipment, software, and/or applications.  

    Note:  New employees coming to EBRPSS/current employees new to a position, must use the Verifent website to verify qualifying years of experience (outside of EBRPSS) aligned to the job description.  All new employees to the district/current employees new to a position will receive 0 years of experience aligned to the job description until the verification of previous experience aligned to the job description is received.
