Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Student research assistants will work under the supervision
of Dr. Daniel Schafer (History Department), who is compiling the first
comprehensive Tatar-English dictionary. Tatar is a language spoken by about six
million people in Russia and other parts of the former Soviet Union. It is
closely related to Turkish but is written with the Russian (Cyrillic) alphabet. Student worker will collect and reformat information from online dictionaries, assist with the scanning and archiving of related research materials, and maintain
records of work accomplished.
| Required Qualifications | Familiarity with Microsoft Word and common Internet browsers, good keyboard skills, ability to work both independently and under close supervision of a faculty member, strong attention to detail, ability to stay engaged with repetitive tasks, and willingness to learn the Cyrillic alphabet. Previous study of Russian or other foreign languages is a plus, but not a requirement for the position. |
