    Secondary ELAR Coordinator (6-12)

    Primary Purpose:

    The Secondary ELAR Coordinator is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Grades 6�12 English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR) curriculum in alignment with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), district vision, and strategic plan. This position supports high-quality instruction through the Splendora Instructional Framework (SIF), coaching, professional learning, curriculum design, and data-driven decision-making. The coordinator collaborates with teachers, campus leaders, and district staff to ensure rigorous, engaging, and vertically aligned instructional programs that prepare all students to be life-ready. 

     

    Education/Certification:

    • Master's degree from an accredited college or university preferred
    • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject area assigned 

     

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    • Knowledge of curriculum design, implementation, and instructional best practices in secondary ELAR
    • Strong understanding of literacy development, including reading, writing, and language instruction
    • Ability to interpret and analyze student performance data to evaluate instructional effectiveness
    • Knowledge of assessment systems (e.g., MAP, STAAR, benchmarks, TSIA2, SAT/ACT readiness)
    • Ability to develop and deliver professional learning for adult learners
    • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Familiarity with adolescent literacy development and secondary student needs

     

    Experience:

                Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience, preferably in ELAR 
     

     

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

    Instructional and Program Management

    1. Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of a rigorous, TEKS-aligned Grades 6�12 ELAR curriculum
    2. Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment across grade levels and campuses
    3. Work cooperatively with district leaders and campus principals to develop and supervise instructional programs
    4. Coordinate the review, development, and revision of curriculum documents, including scope and sequence, curriculum guides, and instructional resources
    5. Evaluate curriculum and instructional program effectiveness using student achievement data and recommend improvements
    6. Analyze student performance data to identify trends and support targeted instructional planning
    7. Assist with the selection, implementation, and evaluation of instructional materials, textbooks, and digital resources
    8. Coordinate the ordering and effective use of instructional materials and resources
    9. Support district initiatives and programs, including interventions, CCMR readiness, and academic enrichment opportunities
    10. Collaborate with curriculum coordinators to ensure interdisciplinary alignment and continuity across content areas
    11. Utilize data systems to disaggregate and communicate student performance data to campus and district leadership

     

    Staff Development

    1. Design and deliver high-quality professional development aligned to district initiatives, the Splendora Instructional Framework (SIF), and best practices in ELAR instruction
    2. Support teachers in implementing research-based instructional strategies, including structured writing, close reading, text analysis, and critical thinking
    3. Participate in PLCs and instructional walkthroughs to provide coaching, feedback, and support for continuous improvement
    4. Disseminate information regarding current research, trends, and state/national updates in ELAR education
    5. Model effective instructional strategies and support classroom implementation

     

    Other

    1. Maintain and organize curriculum resources, instructional materials, and professional learning supports
    2. Assist in the development and management of budgets related to curriculum and instructional materials
    3. Serve as a liaison between the district, campuses, and community partners to support academic initiatives and student opportunities
    4. Communicate program information to parents and community stakeholders as needed
    5. Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and required documentation
    6. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
    7. Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning

    Other Information: 

    The District contributes $330 monthly toward the cost of the employee-only health insurance, which is $105 more than the state-required amount of $225/month. All employees in this position receive free treatment at any Next Level Urgent Care.
