About the Department
This is a full-time, hourly position that reports to the Turf & Parks Maintenance Manager. Semi-skilled and manual work in maintaining various grounds, fields, and facilities.
Position Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintains various grounds, fields, and parks by performing mowing, weeding, tilling, raking, digging and other manual labor tasks.
- Lines and rakes fields for athletics activities.
- Sprays grounds with insecticides and herbicides and spreads fertilizer.
- Installs turf and seeds on fields, parks and other grounds.
- Helps maintain equipment and facilities by performing manual labor and semi-skilled work.
- Performs litter control functions; cleans restrooms; sets up various areas.
- Operates groundskeeping vehicles. Performs preventative maintenance functions on the vehicles.
- Coordinates recreation programs with community recreation leaders.
- Makes daily written and oral reports.
- Informs and directs public in the use of facilities.
- Insures parks are in a safe condition for the public's use.
- May be required to assist with emergency support functions (ESF) in the EOC during emergencies or other related emergency duties.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of landscape maintenance and turf installation.
- Knowledge of tools and equipment to do related work.
- Knowledge of groundskeeping practices and principles.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor under various weather conditions.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Skill in the operation and preventative maintenance of equipment and related tools.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
- Two (2) years of ground maintenance experience.
- Some recreation or related activities experience.
(A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the above minimum qualifications.)
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS
- Ability to possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS
- Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 45 pounds).
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
- Walking, standing, kneeling, bending, stooping.
- Driving.
- Operating equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
- Works outside in various weather conditions.
- Exposure to chemicals (insecticides and herbicides).
- Heights (up to 15 feet).
